firstly i have a lot of respect for the art i have seen on this site, and i t is art. some of the creations i have clicked on have left me in awe.

about a year ago i decided to build an A10 or rattler or something inbetween. i gathered bits and pieces of trash really. i'd see a lid or a empty paper roll and ay "that lokks like an X"

my good friend actually found some model plans that belonged to his son that passed away and gave them to me. he is cheering me on in my endevour, however foolish i might be ;) i have zero experiance, other than the shoe box vehicles i made for joes as a child.

i have always been creative, but my art is surreal and what i would consider natural. i just draw paint until something looks right. to recreate an scale model is totally out of my comfort zone!

First, welcome to the realm of custom vehicle fabrication! Always good to have somebody try something new. Looks like you're off to a good start.

Second, I'd encourage you to think about the structure of the vehicle before you go much further. What are your goals for this project? Do you want a fully detailed interior? Retractable landing gear? One pilot or two? Styrene, ABS, brass or cardboard? These questions go a long way toward deciding what kind of structure you want under the skin of the plane.

When I design something, I've gotten into the idea of having an armature underneath. Doing so solves a lot of problems before they come up. For example, I used a .090" acrylic armature underneath the skin of my Quinjet, and the net result is a plane that can be lifted from either end, either wing, or the tail fin without anything bending or coming off in your hand. That wasn't always the case in some of my earlier efforts.

Finally, I'll offer any advice you want or need, but it's important to recognize this is YOUR project. Make it to satisfy YOU, not necessarily somebody else. If it works for you, that's all that matters. Just because I'd do something differently doesn't make what you're doing wrong. It just means I'd do it another way.

Good luck, and I'm looking forward to seeing your progress here. Keep us posted!

thanx for all the awsome advice! just feeling my way through i guess. it will be static with no moving parts.

i'll be happy if it looks like a A10/rattler hybrid. i did go back into the cockpit area and make more room! i think after i get the topside skinned and 100% the way i want it i'll cut a hole in the bottom to insert figure/controls.

here are my latest pics:
backside of the engines

this is the angle i always drew as a kid, easiest i guess ;)

i'm thinking about 20 standard size highlighters cut down for bombs. i think the lids look like bomb tails. that might be the most expensive part!

This is some pretty good scratch building. I knew what you were going for right from the start, which is not always the case.

I was immediately taken by the orange intakes/outtakes.

I found one at work the other day and confiscated it for my own use. It reminded me of an underwater propulsion unit.

As for the engines, I always wanted to use 12 oz soda cans for a custom A-10.

I'm getting old school flashbacks from when I used to make stuff like this as a kid. Ahh memories.

Looking nice I'm curious about the final result. I wonder if it would fly with some actual engines attached to it. It's not that heavy for sure.

thanx for all the kind words!
for a few weeks i was stalking random people in our break room, to get their trash!

i was going to use small V8 cans for the engines.i found that they would scale it up quite a bit, i would of had to use a larger maintube -not paper towel roll, it is plastic wrap roll! after i found the applesauce lids (engine outs??) i knew i was going a bit smaller. the intakes just fell into place ;)

been working on the front gun today, you guys think it's too big? i wanted to show good barrel detail. i'd love to meet the man who decided on seven barrels, and kick him in the jimmy!

what you think?
