''Following the disastrous events of Operation Waterfront where several Joes were taken prisoner by Cobra, General Hawk has tasked Chuckles to put together a team to find and rescue his men. From the desk of Bucky:
Chuckles came about a couple different ways. I've had that build set aside for the longest time, but wasn't in a rush to ever finish it. I've seen it done by others, and it is a great adaptation for Chuckles. When kicking around ideas for the Gold Springs storyline, i thought it would be the perfect opportunity to finally do something with the build. I had no desire to paint his shirt up like the vintage version, but I thought it would be funny to do his vest up like that. It came out alot better than it had any right to, and got more than a few "chuckles".

From the desk of Oreobuilder:
When we started throwing around ideas for Resurgence II, Destro and the Iron Grenadiers were going to play a bigger part than the way it ended up. Still, after making a battle armor version of Cobra Commander last year, I thought it would be fun to do a Destro in battle armor as well. Using the Thor base is a different look for the laird, but once in the proper colors and with Raptor’s excellent filecard to create a reason for its existence, I think it works.

Head: 50th Destro
Everything else: Marvel Thor

From the desk of Bucky:
Bone saw:
The build and head for the figure were well in place before the character itself. He's sporting a sweet piece of web gear by raginspoon that I picked up long ago in Indy, and was waiting for something to use it on. I didn't originally plan for the build to be a saw viper type of character, but once I pieced it together, it seemed to be a good fit. I wanted him to be more Squat and Bulky, which lead to me playing with different builds until I found one that looked like he was built, but not a monster. The character is not mean to be "the saw viper" from the comics, but the influence is definitely there.

Parts Used:
Helmet and Vest-Raginspoon
Head-Marvel Universe
Arms-RoC Heavy Duty
Hands-Retaliation Roadblock
Upper Legs-Retaliation Roadblock
Lower Legs-Renegades Trooper

From the desk of Bucky:
Upshot:
Upshot came about while going through archives and trying to figure out what the Joe team doesn't have. And one of those is a dedicated archer. It might seem a bit silly to have a soldier running around with a bow and arrow, but that is some of the appeal of GI Joe as a whole. It's not a bunch of bland army guys, it's bright and colorful and unique. His look was tweaked here and there, as I really wanted to use that torso. I'm not sure why, I just really thought it looked like it belonged. The colors of the figure are meant to mimic what is my oldest memory of Robin Hood, which is the Disney version of a cartoon fox.

Parts List:
Head-iron man figure
Headband-star wars figure, plus some scrap
Torso-Retaliation Firefly
Upper Arms-Resolute Trooper
Lower arms-marvel Universe figure
Upper Legs-Retaliation trooper, with holster and pouch added
Lower Legs-retaliation Snake Eyes

From the desk of Dusty79:
In trying to come up with a figure to do for our desert mail away set, I kept coming back to Doc. I had been wanting to do a modern version of this character for a while and he seemed to fit nicely. The hardest part here was making a modern medic helmet. I originally planned to just use glasses, but delays in recieving a casting order pushed me in another direction. I tried a lot of different things before figuring out to cut the faceplate off a Steel Brigade Delta helmet and add the glasses from Renegades Ripcord. I thought it looked like something a modern medic would wear so I went with it. For the rest of him, I tried to take cues off the original and just use more modern parts options.

Parts used:
Torso, Arms, Belt-Retaliation Kwinn (belt modded)
Legs, Hands-Retaliation Ultimate Duke
Satchel-25th Doc
Head-Renegades Ripcord
Gear-30th Lifeline
Helmet-Steel Brigade Delta modded with visor form Renegades Ripcord glasses

From the desk of Oreobuilder:
The Sand Wolf was a late addition to the project. One day, I was staring at a spare 50th Cobra Wolf sitting in my vehicle fodder box. I was trying to find new ways of using it. I thought that it would make a cool desert vehicle, so I gave it a shot. I added a couple of Desert Scorpions to man the driver and gunner positions. We made it a mail away since it is a pretty simple custom. It fills the same role as the black version of the HISS II we made for Resurgence 1: http://oreobuildersblog.blogspot.ca/201 ... -ii-w.html

Once we decided to include the Sand Wolf in the project, we needed a driver for it. I looked at yojoe and a couple of reference books to compare all the various Cobra desert troopers that had been made over the years. One of the options was the Sand Viper from the new sculpt years. In the end, I settled on the classic Desert Scorpion. Since I don’t have the Club’s version, I have had it on my to-do list for a while. I tried to stay as true to the original look as possible, including the colors.

Head: Ret Cobra Trooper
Head scarf: cast from 25th Night Creeper
Torso: 25th Airborne
Upper legs: PoC Beachhead
Lower legs: Ret Kamakura
Belt: 25th Tunnel Rat
Arms: DTC Red Zone
Shoulder pads: 25th Barbecue
Bandolier: PoC Steel Brigade

From the desk of Oreobuilder:
The Bivouac is still one of my all-time favorite small playsets. I never had it as a kid, but one of my friends did. I have fond memories of playing with our Joes together. I was always using the Bivouac as a small outpost to spy on Cobra or lob mortar shells at the bad guys. When I started collecting Joes again as an adult, I picked up a couple of used Bivouacs on eBay. Since I was planning on painting one in desert colors, I figured it would be fun to include it in this project.

Ever since I made Groundpounder in his green fatigues last year, I have wanted to make a desert version. Since the base Duke body was already tan with really nice camouflage, I kept it and simply changed the accent color and some of the accessories. In our story, Groundpounder captured in ‘’Operation: Waterfront’’. However, he got rescued in time to take part in the assault to liberate Gold Springs.

FOB:
Tent, weapons rack: Vintage Bivouac
Barrel, jerry can, laptop, crates: PTE
Radio: 50th Night Landing
Mortar: ?
Binoculars: 25th Duke

Groundpounder:
Head, helmet: PoC Dusty
Vest: RoC Pit Commando
Everything else: Ret Ultimate Duke

From the desk of Bucky:
I enjoy revisiting characters I have created (with the help of our filecard writers), and the chance to work in Sun Devil again fit perfectly with the Mail Away storyline.
I might be the only one that will remember him in a year, but that's ok. Instead of a Straight repaint (since Sun Devil was a desert trooper already in part 1), I used the Duke Base to match his partner for the set, GroundPounder. I used the red again that I used in part one, and gave him some different webgear and a desert themed top. An untold story from Resurgence 1, is that I spoke to Gary Head on Facebook when we were first kicking the idea around, wanting to know if he could give us some insight on what might help us. Try as I might, I'm not sure I could articulate what we were going to attempt to do, so I feel as though I rambled on. His response-"I totally get what you are trying to do". He informed me the person that could give us some sound advice was Patrick Stewart, whom I talked to then, and gave us fantastic advice regarding a large amount of figures-make them colorful, and make them stand out. If you have a large amount of figures released in a year and line them up, you'll notice a large variety of colors. That thought process, as simple as it sounds, was incredibly helpful and I never got to thank Gary for pointing me in the direction of Mr. Stewart.

This figure is for you Goggles!

From the desk of Bucky:
One of the first ideas that popped into my mind last summer when playing with the idea of doing a Resurgence 2 was that of an insect-based viper that attacked in droves. All I had was an idea for the helmet, and from there I had found some wings from a Marvel Universe figure. As time wore on and our story stared to take shape, the idea of a viper turned into an Android Trooper, and the surplus of all the blowtorch figures out there was something to build off of, and my plan was to build a small "army" of them through cast parts (helmet, vest, wings, weapons and add ons) and blowtorch figures.
Unfortunately, that didn't come to fruition for various reasons. As luck would have it, Oreobuilder had another set of wings, and I was able to score the helmet again from the store again and we were able to build the Locust figure, and the end result is the figure you see here!

From the desk of Bucky:
I wanted to create a "named" character for the SWARM concept. All I had for a long time was an idea to do something with those Star Wars Robotic Legs. After tinkering around, I sanded down a BAT torso to fit flush and added the upper arms. The lower arms came a little later through Iron Man parts and random pieces laying around. The wings were acquired in the PIF box. I could not find anything that resembled an insectoid head, so decided to try to make one using the Data Viper helmet and the spacers that are in the leg joints of Modern Era joes. I was aiming for a bug look, with multiple eyes. The figure comes out looking pretty different, but I honestly can't decide if I like it or not. I don't do alot of non-human builds, that could be part of it.

From the desk of Oreobuilder:
Once we settled on the SWARM as the main enemy for Resurgence II, we kicked around a few ideas on who would lead this new faction. After a few false starts, we decided to bring back Glitch. We made him more unhinged and obsessed with his creations. For his second version, Bucky wanted a fresh take, so I volunteered. I kept some of the main design features, but I tried to push the fact that Glitch would have spent some time and effort on miniaturizing his implants and hardware.

Once I had settled on the recipe for Glitch 2.0. I had the idea of giving him a central command hub with which to control his SWARM. I figured that since his actual armor was lighter, he would need more protection when he led his troops on the battlefield. I had a Marvel Captain America Mech that I had no plans for. I guessed that, with a few add-ons and once painted in the right colors, it would look like an upsized version of Glitch.

Head: Roc Cobra Commander

SWARM Invasion 3-Pack - Delta Class vehicle set

B.A.T. technology has been seemlessly integrated into the new Cobra war machine through the creation of Howler. This version of the B.A.T. propagates orders on the battlefield to the SWARM, including aerial and ground drones. Reapers attack from the air and Ransackers attack from the ground. Both drones are heavily armored and armed. A swarming Howler unit is something to behold and strikes fear into the heart of any enemy.

From the desk of Dusty79:

This BAT Drone Operator, code name Howler, was initially supposed to have just been a Data-BAT. (Raptor, who wrote the file card, came up with the name Howler as I was having naming block at the time and I loved it.) While I was brainstorming ideas for this project I thought it would be cool if the SWARM had some heavily armored and heavily armed vehicles to include in assaults on GI Joe. I wanted them to be unmanned and controlled remotely. This guy was sitting on my WIP shelf and struck me as the perfect setup to control and operate a fleet of attack vehicles. The Ransacker drone was made out of what was intially going to be an attempted update on the Bridgelayer that I could not figure out the bridge portion of, so it was repurposed and changed quite a bit to make it more suitable for this application. Those changes mainly being a gun installed at every possible place. For the Reaper, I wanted something larger than the small drones Hasbro gave us, but smaller than a full size jet, so the Firebat/Skysweeper seemed perfect. I utilized pieces from both of those vehicles to get this where I wanted it to be. It is basically a flying gun.

Parts used:

Howler
Webgear-Retaliation Data-Viper
Body-25th BAT with gun holster modded

Ransacker
POC Ice Cutter
Retaliation HISS treads
Halo guns and fodder
Cast Gatling gun barrels

Reaper
25th Firebat with parts from ROC Skysweeper
Halo guns
Cast Gatling gun barrel
Various pieces of fodder

From the desk of Oreobuilder:
I loved Starcom as a kid. I had a few of the vehicles and a bunch of the figures. Aside from the obvious reasons for enjoying these toys like the working mechanical features, the magnetic boots and the detailed futuristic weapons, I loved how they were split into different branches of the military: Marines, Space Pilots and command. Each set had its own color scheme and each character was different, yet they all worked together to form a cohesive unit. With this figure, I tried to reproduce the feeling of a Starcom figure in 4’’.

Once I decided to make Slim, I wanted to add a pilot, a Marine and a vehicle. The RHINO is the most STARCOM-ish vehicle that I could think of. It has space military styling as well as the ‘’deployment’’ feature with the helicopter. I knew that once painted into the proper colors, it would make a convincing STARCOM vehicle.

Slim:
Head: Star Wars
Helmet: 30th Sci-Fi
Torso, upper arms, legs: PoC Arctic Destro
Lower arms: 25th IG Destro

Dash:
Head: DTC Comic Hawk
Torso, upper arms, legs: PoC Arctic Destro
Lower arms: 25th IG Destro

Dakota:
Head: DTC Steel Brigade Rook

''Following the disastrous events of Operation Waterfront where several Joes were taken prisoner by Cobra, General Hawk has tasked Chuckles to put together a team to find and rescue his men. Meanwhile, a new group of GI Joe recruits are tasked with finding out what Cobra’s new plan is. Steel Brigade Squad 5-pack - Limited Edition multi-figure pack
''Cobra's new threat - the SWARM - has been repelled for now. GI Joe liberates infested regions and deploys their rapid response team - the Steel Brigade - to restore order, peace and and stability.''

Image

Image

From the desk of Oreobuilder:
In the early 2000s, the Club made the Steel Brigade an international security and peacekeeping force for their Convention set. This idea stuck with me and over the years, I’ve added a few Steel Brigade customs to my ranks.

I started from this idea: ‘’The Steel Brigade is a paramilitary team that follows GI Joe into SWARM infested areas. The Steel Brigade is responsible for mopping up SWARM stragglers, securing and holding areas, law enforcement, crowd control and insuring relief efforts for the affected populations.’’ I then set about creating team members that fit those roles.

Peacemaker

Image
Image
Image

From the desk of Oreobuilder:
Peacemaker was the first member of the team that I created. Before starting on Resurgence 2, we brainstormed possible specialties that had never been done in GI Joe. One idea that came up was that of a diplomat/negotiator. For a Steel Brigade peacekeeping force, having a negotiator on the team would be important. He can meet with government officials and community leaders to insure that the Brigade can operate smoothly in conjunction with local authorities. Peacemaker can also bring different warring factions together at the bargaining table to hammer out ceasefires, treaties or agreements.

Head: 25th Matt Tracker
Helmet, legs: PoC Steel Brigade
Torso, arms: RoC Destro

Buffer Zone

Image
Image
Image

From the desk of Oreobuilder:
If Peacemaker is the dove, Buffer Zone is the hawk. He was the second member and the commander of the team. I tried to create a look that stayed true to the spirit of the original Steel Brigade figure. I gave him the traditional colors, kneepads, the bandolier and an SBD helmet. Of the five members of the team, I tried to make Buffer Zone the most realistic military. He has the least amount of blue, wears the heavy field jacket and has the most ‘’grounded’’ accessories.

Head: 25th Flint
Torso, arms: RoC Zartan
Legs: PoC Dusty
Helmet: Steel Brigade Delta
Bandolier, backpack: PoC Steel Brigade

Comlink

Image
Image
Image
Image

From the desk of Oreobuilder:
I worked on Comlink, Suture and Riot at the same time. I wanted to make them all unique, yet have similar features that would tie them all to a Steel Brigade squad. Comlink started out very differently. She was supposed to be a ‘’he’’ that specialized in Communications. After playing around with fodder, I decided the team needed a female member and changed her specialty to reconnaissance. I added the visor to the helmet to change it up and give it a bit of a Clone Wars feel.

Head: Star Wars
Torso, upper arms: 25th Lady Jaye
Lower arms: Ret Alley Viper
Legs: 25th Cobra Trooper
Vest: PoC Steel Brigade
Helmet: DTC Steel Brigade modified.
Backpack: Star Wars

Suture

Image
Image
Image

From the desk of Oreobuilder:
One of the roles of the Steel Brigade is to provide medical support and humanitarian relief. For this, I made up Suture, a doctor. I kept the recipe simple and tried to give him a lighter uniform that the rest of the team. For the color, I added the white to differentiate him even more. Finally, I kitbashed a rescue pack for him using a Retaliation Trooper backpack and other bits and pieces to complete the look.

Head: 25th Cobra Commander
Torso, arms: 30th Renegades Trooper
Legs: PoC Lowlight
Helmet: PoC Steel Brigade
Backpack: Ret Joe Trooper

Riot

Image
Image
Image

From the desk of Oreobuilder:
Riot started off with the helmet. I was playing around with fodder to modify the base Steel Brigade helmet to get different looks. After I glued the Retaliation Joe trooper’s gas mask to the helmet, I thought of making a crowd control specialist. I figured it would be a useful specialty in urban areas that had been destabilized by a SWARM invasion.

Head: Star Wars Mace Windu
Torso, upper arms: Ret Joe Trooper
Lower arms: Renegades Firefly
Upper legs: 25th Gung-Ho
Lower legs: 25th Airborne
Vest: Ret Ultimate Duke
Helmet: PoC Steel Brigade (modified)

Beaten, but not destroyed, Cobra has retreated to lick their wounds and plan their next move. To put his new plan into motion, Cobra Commander has recruited new agents and has unleashed them onto the battlefield!''

From the desk of Bucky:
Neat Freak: for the longest time, I didn't have a set name for the dreadnok cleaning lady. The idea for a cleaning lady/girlfriend for Riff Raff (from Resurgence 1) was born not too long after the project debuted last summer, when I ran across a playmobil cleaning playset. It was too good to be true. I knew long ago I wanted the file name to be a play on Merry Maids, and her codename for the longest time was simply "Mad Mary". As I brainstormed some ideas for others, I came across Neat Freak, which fit the filecard Trekker had wrote perfectly. Dreadnoks are fun to make, because they don't need to fit any specific theme or idea. You can just go as goofy as you want, and it usually works.

Parts Used:
Roc Covergirl
Kamakura hands
Accessories: Playmobil

Day 27:

''Following the disastrous events of Operation Waterfront where several Joes were taken prisoner by Cobra, General Hawk has tasked Chuckles to put together a team to find and rescue his men. Meanwhile, a new group of GI Joe recruits are tasked with finding out what Cobra’s new plan is. Little do they know that both missions will lead them to Gold Springs, a nice little town in the desert…''

Dragonfire w. Mongoose - Bravo Class vehicle
The newest G.I. Joe attack chopper is heavily armed with rockets, missiles, and multiple independently rotating guns. Cobra forces don't stand a chance against this fire breather. Features spinning rotors and opening canopy for the included pilot MONGOOSE.

From the desk of Dusty79:
The Dragonfire came about one day while I was searching online for 1/18th vehicles that I had never had in hand. I saw the Avatar gunship and thought it would be a great base for a modern attack chopper for GI Joe. I changed the landing gear, added the rotors and added the side thrusters. This thing came armed to the teeth, but I did add a chin gun for a little extra muscle. I wanted to include Dragon in the title and considering its armament, Dragonfire seemed appropriate. In choosing the color, I wanted something that popped, as opposed to just a dull army green, so I looked at about a half dozen colors and went with the one that said dragon to me the most. Mongoose is named after the animal so well known for killing cobras. If you look closely you will see some Rikki-Tikki-Tavi references on his helmet. The red eyes of Rikki on the front and Rikki himself on the sides. Just some fun added nostalgia from childhood.

Parts used:

Head, Torso, Upper Arms-25th Matt Trakker
Lower Arms, Upper Thighs, Hands-Retaliation Airborne
Lower Legs, Feet-Renegades Tunnel Rat
Webgear-Black Dragon VTOL Pilot
Helmet-Star Wars with night vison added

From the desk of Bucky:
Overboard and Devilsharc:
I didn't have any ideas on a vehicle for the project until I stumbled across the Corps boat at a toy store last October. I'm not much of a vehicle customizer. I think they turn out ok, but I have nowhere near the talent I see all over the forums (or my partners in crime Dusty and Oreobuilder). I tend to stick with smaller builds if I try to tackle them. Of course, I ruined the first attempt by dropping it off the shelf one day. The upper shell cracked, and I was more than just a little annoyed by that. I was able to get another after a search, and started over again. In the meantime, I had the diver/pilot built and ready to go. I did my best to try to get him to look a bit unlike the divers we are used to seeing. I had really good luck with the paint in that it took great and left the figure fully poseable!
