I was trying to come up with what I was feeling about this character and the representation of it, and realized his quote basically covered it.

There should be a slight revulsion, mixed with empathy, and creepiness, given (how I remember) the cartoon version.

Thanks, guys. Creepy and pathetic were exactly the vibes I was going for.

Also, realized something fun: With the completion of Toyman, I now have all the members of the original Legion of Doom in 1:18 scale:

I may try to do more toon accurate versions of Sinestro, Braniac and Toyman at some point, but it was neat to line all these guys up for the group mug shot.

Thanks, JM. I'm pretty pleased with how he turned out.

This has apparently been the week for closure on long-simmering projects.

At my son's and daughters' behest, I finally gotarouond to finishing up my Teen Titans team.

First came Beast Boy from a mix of DCIH and Joe parts:

Then I used the head and cape of another DCIH figure, along with an MU donor body to make Raven:
Attachment:
Raven.jpg
Raven.jpg [ 84.83 KiB | Viewed 1357 times ]

Finally, my first attempt at a H.A.C.K.s based custom (with DCIH donor hair), Starfire:

For the first two I was going for a more realistic/slightly older take on their animated looks and, in Star's case, a tribute to her classic comic appearance.

What do you think?

Legion of Doom is an amazing shot, and Starfire is perfect.

Dammit - I was done buying BFS blanks - I have too many in the box that I haven't turned into customs yet. And now you've got me seriously wanting to pick up an orange one so I can copy your Starfire.

Awesome job - and really digging that Legion shot.

No! He copied me! I just wasn't done yet. :D
That's the first thing I thought of when I saw that orange blank body.

Thanks for the kind words, all. Really glad you like these.

I'm probably going to put a little paint on Raven (a powder blue wash on the bodysuit, I'm thinking) and inivest in some cheap animals I can paint up for Beast Boy's alter forms, but in the meantime, here's a shot of the Titans' core team assembled:

And another including the broader group of customs that I play as child/teen/young adult heroes ion my verse. Let's call it Young Justice (with some notable absences):

Cool!

Was it difficult to take off the Starfire hair?

It was a bit of a pain. Had to soak it in hot water, then pull and pry a bit, then soak it again, then pull and pry.

Wanted to be sure I didn't wreck it, so took my time.

So looking back at the Legion of Doom group shot over the weekend made me want to get busy on more toon accurate versions of some of my baddies.

Sinestro seemed like a good place to start:

I used the same SDCC donor figure for the head and hands and, just like I did with my Yellow Lantern Corps version, grafted those onto an MU Bullseye body. Here's a side-by-side comparison:
Attachment:
Sinestro2.jpg
Sinestro2.jpg [ 100.04 KiB | Viewed 1226 times ]

And for giggles I went ahead and staged him with his nemesis for a silver-age tribute shot:

What do you think?
