Even with out the real life backstory this is a great custom. I thought for sure you cut the ears off a Batman head.

But with the background info for how this came about, it is even better.

It's been a long time since I updated my DC thread and, since we saw the new Justice League movie recently, thought I'd try to sneak in one last custom before the year-end:

Steppenwolf was a pretty lame screen villain. Ill-defined power set, little-to-no personality and a ton of sloppy CGI. In those ways he reminded me a lot of the Destroyer as portrayed in the first Thor movie, so it seemed appropriate that my spare destriyer figure (which had been earmarked for Thorbuster Armor I'm probably never going to do) to make a movie-inspired custom.

As some may be able to tell, I didn't stay slavishly faithful to his movie appearance. It was just too generic. Instead I borrowed some elements from his classic comic book look (like the yellow skin and fondness for green) to make him fit in better with my movie/comic/cartoon mash-up Parademons.

I did like the idea of him being bigger than the heroes, but not quite as big as he was in the movies (he literally looked like a six-inch-cale figure fighting 3.75-inch-scale figures in most scenes). The Destroyer body and custom-sculpted head gave him the right presence against the likes of my Wonder Woman, I thought.

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

Can honestly say I never saw myself making this character.

I don't know much about him, and I even saw the JL movie, but that's a solid figure. Looks great.

Happy New Year, all!

To celebrate I decided to tackle a character I've long wanted in my Batman's rogues gallery:

After purchasing the 1:18 scale Multiverse Clayface, I was struck by two things: 1. He was huge. Like nearly seven inches. And 2. His proportions were just plain goofy. I'd always liked the DC Universe Clayface figure done in the animated style and I found one on eBay cheap. The only thing I didn't like were its rubbery arms. So I replaced them with the two parts of the Multiverse figure I didn't hate:

Had to do a little paint matching, but in addition to the swappable hand attachment improvement, this Clayface is slightly smaller than the Arkham City-based monstrosity. Here's how it looks with my other custom Batman baddies of various sizes:

Nice!
Now get another monster & put animated Clayface's head on it for super sized Clayface. He is a size changer after all.

Thanks. Batman's baddies have really kept me busy customizing. Here is a shot of some of the others I've done (all have been modified from existing figures or scratch-built):

It seems like the Holidays always bring me back to my DC customs.

This year I've been working on using up some of the fodder left over from that first series of Injustice-inspired figures we got.

Most of those figures were pretty poorly constructed - proportions and scale were off and they were super fragile - but parts of them were pretty good. For example, I really enjoyed elements of their Superman, which broke right out of the box. Since my default Superman custom is definitely classic-comic-look inspired, I used the new one's torso, cape and boots to create a more modern version of the character for my collection:

I also really enjoyed their Catwoman figure, but it was just too small to pass for a grown-up version of the character. And since I have a Catwoman custom I dig, I thought I'd take advantage of the coloring on this base body to make a new version of Batgirl (using elements of the recent classic 60s Funko figure):

Here's a quick action shot to show how they work in conjunction with each other:

Love it. Two figures I’m constantly struggling to improve on. I ended up using my ‘66 batgirl head as a base for modern, but I dig this.

For Supes my biggest thing is getting the cape right and you’ve got me to wondering now about plastic vs cloth

I ws literally about to type these same exact words. Supes is good is pretty close to the current CW version. But Bargirl is the showstopper.
