So since I've clearly started poking around the creepier corners of the broader DC universe, I decided to challenge myself with a character I hadn't thought about in years:

Swamp Thing was built over three days using an original appearance MU Hulk (that was just taking up space in my fodder box) and a bunch of green stuff (some of which I then painted brown).

I consider him a spare parts experiment.

What do you think?

the sculpting is superb. the dimensions of the base figure seem large to me, but I only know swampthing from the animated show and a few toys. is he so muscular in comics? maybe make him taller ??

if you filled in at the neck to make the lines less human, then sculpted the toes to look less human it would look more "plant like".

That looks like a solid representation! I definitely like the vines a lot!

Yeah, I think he needs the shoulders brought up at an angle to the head. That's a signature sillouhette of Swampy. And maybe some more color variation with different shades of green and brown.

I like the big bulky base figure. Just think he could use a little more detail work.

All of your figures are beyond stellar, Spinny D! :like: With as much effort and care you put into all of these customs, it's a wonder you're not actually working for any of the big name companies, yo. ;-)

Sorry for the long lag in posts, all. Been a crazy year so far. But I am so proud of this next piece that I couldn't wait to share.

First, some background: After my father passed last week I took some time off to be with my family. My son took the loss of his grandpa very hard, so I wanted to make that time with him special. Over the weekend, he asked if we could make a figure. I hadn't even thought about customizing in a few months, so it sounded like great grief therapy to me. He picked the character and then spent a day digging through my spare parts bins to find the ingredients for Red Robin:

I helped him crack the Mercer torso and cut down the "oh-face" Duke harness for him, but he pieced it together and painted it with minimal supervision. I was particularly impressed that he saw potential in that Iron Fist head:

When we were done, I asked him what he wanted to do with it and he said he wanted it to live in my desktop batcave with the rest of the Bat Family. I told him I'd be honored and we snapped this family photo of my customs and his together. I think his might be the second coolest one of the bunch.

What do you guys think?

That's a great looking figure, and the backstory is even better. He did a great job!

Sorry to hear about the loss in your family. Your son did great on that figure, it sounds like it was a great way to cope with what's happened for the both of you. Really incredible to be able to share that with each other as means of comfort.

Hope you both are able to continue to share the hobby in happier times, too.

If you hadn't said your son did this I'd have just assumed it was one of yours. He did a great job.

Spin, that's touching. Makes you appreciate the little things. And the figure is amazing. Great eye, great potential. You all did good.

Great backstory, great figure. You should both be proud. It looks like skill wise, he will be a chip off the old block!
