Thanks, Goldie.

I decided to try and supplement the magical contingent of my DC verse this week by adding everyone's favorite crass British expert on all things mystical, John Constantine:

I had a hard time selecting a head for him until I remembered I had a spare of one of my other favorite crass, comical Brits. And I was thrilled to find my copy of the Necronomicon for him to play with:

What do you think?

hulkbuster? your superb figure could be so many differen't characters. makes me think of pulp fiction "hunny bunny" :)

my only reference for Constantine is the movie (Keanu?)

Oh, no!

If Keanu is your only experience of the character, you need to get your hands on some of the original comics. Or even the pretty-darned-good TV series that got canceled a few years back.

This is definitely more an homage to that version of the character.

I think he needs a red tie and a cigarette. The tie is my personal preference, but he needs the cig.

Cool! Is that head compatible with ball joint necks or did you have to dremel it?

The head was from the new-sculpt era for Joes. I had to cut it down and drill it out to make it fit.

And MS - I'm working on the cigarette. Surprisingly hard to find something at this scale that holds up to a little paint.

Thanks for the comments, guys.

hey spin try a metal "push pin" very thin with a little flat head. I've made several and they are super tough.

just hold the pin close to the tip (maybe leave 1/8" on the sharp side) with flat or needle nose plyers.

in the other hand hold the figure/head tight and place the sharp end where you want the smoke to be.

apply even and smooth pressure (I bent a few). once it is in there a good 1/4" deep you can clip the head end off to the desired length.

and paint.

edited to make sense and not induce migraine :)

Thanks for the tip, 2Dark. I'll have to give that a shot.

In the meantime, here's another DC custom I've had simmering for a while:

Parasite.jpg

I've wanted to do the Parasite since I first made Superman. But all the Purple paint seemed like it would be a nightmare regardless of which version of the character I decided to try. Ultimately, after discovering the Boss Fight bodies, I settled on something like Alex Ross' minimalist interpretation. But all I needed to do was pose him next to Superman to realize he wasn't going to look anywhere near formidable enough:

So I decided to give him a "stage 2" variation and based the design in part on his Superman Unbound appearance and in part on a new cartoon my son has been watching lately (Justice League Action?). So here's how he looks all juiced up on Kryptonian power:

What do you think?

that parasite is awesome!

btw, that constantine head is not gi joe... it is from Emil Blonsky (played by Tim Roth) the "hulkbuster" from the incredible hulk movie. It has a black body that is repurposed from barrel roll. You can usually get a couple at a time, dirt cheap on ebay, at any moment.

That Parasite with variation made me gasp. That is off the charts cool.

I'm digging that Constatine too.

Thanks, all, for the kind words.

As I was doing that midsection mouth on Parasite, I wondered if it was going to be too over the top.

Glad it landed right.
