Post subject:  Castle Interior Dio (WIP) UPDATE p.2 (7-9-16)

So I've shown all sorts of scenes using two pieces of foam board, a stone wall and a stone floor. This weekend I moved closer towards a full blown castle scene. In the end, it will be modular, allowing me to configure the pieces to easily represent different areas/scenes.

So far I've added a second wall, which allows for better photography, and a staircase with landing, for better depth and detail. Add to this some victorian era furniture salvaged from an old store display dollhouse furniture set, and you get this:

actually, wait. First some WIP pics from this weekend (and a few that started prior)

and here is where it stands today.

LED Tealights providing the ambiance. (Normally I prefer real candles, but that chandelier wasn't going to mix well with fire). Have a small scene already started, but putting it on hold as I look for some paintings and especially a rug to go in the sitting area.

Comments and ideas welcome as always

Man, that looks fantastic! I have been trying to make a dio/stone building, using some foam blocks that I found in Hobby Lobby... The problem with the blocks is that they were not uniform, so my walls... slanted, for lack of a better word. Your stone looks amazing, and much more realistic. Great work!

I could see Vincent price warming next to the fire and smoking a pipe. this is all kinds of awesome!!!!

for the rug a bear skin would be nice. how about this dude?

Thanks fellas... and jm70... This one is fun for me. And yeah, a bunch of different scenes will be shot eventually, with all sorts of characters. Have to say that following Stephen Hayford Plastics on Facebook really inspired this.

MOST impressive!
I've seen that way of creating walls in the miniature wargaming scene, the result is very convincing. I like the way you created the wood effect too. Is the castle made for Destro, Cobra or no one in particular?

Suggestions:
- a hunting trophy on the wall. A deer's/boar's head, made from a Schleigh animal.
- a knight's harnass standing in a corner

those are both great suggestions. Also thinking of some family portraits on the wall behind the stairs. And racking my brain for a rug idea.

This isn't for any Joe-centric theme. Others have covered those well and better. This is a modular set, so it can be many things. I have it set up now for the home of my victorian era hero. But yeah, you'll see Dracula, Vincent Price, someday maybe Scooby Doo, and a number of others in here. Maybe some historical pieces too.

Full scenes sometimes. Othertimes just for a cool background to show off a figure

Wow! Inspiring to say the least my friend. The details are stellar and I love the fire place with the light in there as fire. Nice effect. Just to damn good man!

Awesome work. I will have to post some of the picks for the dungeon/ancient castle/whatever else it works for soon. Very inspiring.

Beautiful. I'm blown away. The floor and wall are foam board? You painted/weathered them to get that effect? I'm curious about the technique you used?
