Awesome idea, I cannot wait to see this getting finished!
Imagine a funny dio story: Mindbender begging Croc Master at the door of this room for another few reptiles for some new freaky experiment...."don't you touch my babies!!!"

thanks guys!

I do have some led's to play with. i'm thinking of using a coke crate as the room mostly because I can get more light through the holes in the walls. I also need it to be strong as I plan on a swamp scene on top of it :)

That's going to be awesome.

I appreciate it guys!

I mentioned earlier that I found a coke crate that I hoped would work for the reptile room. I tried several set ups and the crate just won't photo well. I could start cutting it up to create more and bigger POV's. I was telling my wife about my woes as she was walking out the door. she said why not build it in a fish tank. hmmm genius idea! thank goodness for lady logic :) we have plenty not in use. I used to catch and keep a lot of critters and would buy every tank I found at thrift stores.

this is just my proof of concept.i think i'll do a white and green grimy wash over the inner walls .the top swamp feature will get fully sculpted and hopefully some sort of resin type water feature. I want to be able to look up and see the swamp above. the right left corner needs arranging, I might need to cull some of the critters out to display better.

originally I planned on all the enclosures to have substrate like the black sand in my coral and king snake tanks. I might omit it to allow better lighting. the leds I have are super bright. I think a softer yellow light works better.i had to drop the monitor cage, it just didn't fit in, I guess he can roam free with the tortoises :)

let me know if you have any ideas to improve my lay out!

I think I have everything in place now. just need to rearrange what reptiles go where, sure up a few things, paint, decorate enclosures, and sculpt a swamp on top :) easy!!

Holy hell yes! I love how this is moving along. I may have to borrow this idea it's just freaking awesome. The idea that this is just under the surface of the swamp with critters crawling above it inspired.

I know you said you might skip the substrate in the tanks but the substrate really sets them up as mini terrariums and vivariums. Maybe go with light sand to help reflect the light?

thanks sgcaper! if you do decide to make some tanks I can point you to the ebay seller I got most of them from. about .80 cents each if you buy 10. one of mine arrived busted and they sent 2 to replace it! all the smaller tanks I scrounged from work, and I could use a few more.

I have some light color sand paper to try out. it is important to me for the enclosures to both look real and allow light to get to the other tanks. pouring rain here or I would be spraying all the boxes and the interior walls white.

I finally got some hobby time today, and felt good enough to utilize it!

I started last night by spray painting one of the "newts" from the SL toob, but the flat black never dried. they must be the wrong kind of rubber to paint. I was able to paint over it with acrylic and salvage it. Gila monsters were at the top of my lizard must have list. i'm really happy with these. the next tank down has a breeding pair of agamas. bellow that is a pair of water dragons. the bottom tank has a chuckwalla.

I wired in both sets of lights I have, looks cool in person. they don't photo well though.

I also got this guy in the mail today :)

i'm real happy with where i'm at:)

I still want to weather and dirty up the walls and floor. there are several critters yet to paint, and then there is the swamp I plan up top.
