I'm also hoping to be able to do something similar in scale to Kwinn for Horrow-Show. And yeah I'd love to see a Nemesis Enforcer done the same way.

I had missed that, thanks! I have some Visionaries myself, the parts aren't generally suited for GI Joe, but for a Cobra-La figure, yes. And the Goro head was a great idea.

This custom is based on Jarhead's (unfortunately rather badly-drawn) first appearance in IDW Special Missions #10 (Dec 2013), where he went on a mission with Scarlett and two other Marines - Gung-Ho and Leatherneck. Since Gung-Ho has Force Recon covered, I figured that Jarhead was a Marine Raider, a unit that was revived in 2006 when the USMC created its own Special Operations command structure (MARSOC) as part of SOCOM. You might notice his hair isn't perfectly yellow, but that's intentional to match his comic appearance. The head is from Duke v3 (1992), torso from Duke v4 (1993), waist from Backstop (1987), and arms and legs from Crankcase (1985). I gave him a boonie hat from Marauder Inc., a classic M16A4/M203 grenade launcher from Leatherneck (1986), and a more modern (and comic-accurate) M4 carbine (sourse unknown).

Here's what I have for his filecard:

Jarhead is a Marine Raider, the new breed of Spec Ops unit of the USMC. They are experts in rappelling and fast-roping, airborne and HALO jumps, SCUBA diving, small boat operations and SERE tactics, plus the general nasty attitude that comes with being a Marine. Since the Raiders are part of the SOCOM command structure rather than the USMC per se, it's rumored Jarhead was assigned there just to get him out the Marine brass' hair.

“Some guys say that USMC actually stands for Uncle Sam's Misguided Children. Jarhead embodies that idea, and is very proud of it. He's a Marine all the way, from his boots to his haircut – especially his haircut. Shipwreck prefers to use another acronym when talking about Jarhead, of course – Muscles Are Required, Intelligence Not Essential. It doesn't always result in a fistfight when he says that. Just most of the time.”

These are all excellent.

Windmill is a huge improvement. Diana looks perfect, nice job with the camo pattern and the colors. I'd love to do a custom october guard team, but it may never happen.

Kwinn looks awesome as well. I like how you captured his size. He's on my to do list, I just have to find the parts.

thanks for the tips, Kwinn! you are my new custom hero! If my customs turn out 85% as good as yours, my nephews won't even know they r customs! ;)

I had seen the Enforcer, but hate the goro head! I thought the same thing with a MU or DCU head on it, would look infinitely better.

Thanks, I think he may be the best work I've done to date. Most of the time, a custom doesn't quite work out how you would hope, there's some small flaw or something you just couldn't quite get to look right, but I don't think there's anything about Jarhead I would want to change.

I have a True Heroes boat that I'm going to customize into a Coast Guard cutter called the Wave Breaker. I don't really have the space to do it right now, but I'll be moving next year and will have enough room for big projects like that, so I will get to it eventually. In the meantime, I've done a custom of Cutter to command the ship. His outfit is based on the Coast Guard's service uniform. I think it's simple but effective. I painted some Lieutenant's bars on his collar which turned out pretty well.

Lots of great stuff in this thread. Kwinn and Daina stand out and Jarhead is terrific.

I have some catching up to do in posting my work here. So first off we have this custom Crazylegs, which was done to give him more military colours. A bright-red assault trooper doesn't make much sense, so I repainted him mostly khaki. I did give him some red highlights to maintain a connection to the original though.

Also, I've never liked his rifle. The packaging calls it an EM-4, but it can't be that since the actual EM-4 (which never progressed beyond the experimental stage) was a bullpup design. So I gave him a rifle from Marauder Inc., which I don't think is supposed to represent an actual rifle. I think it looks like a Leader Dynamics T2 Mk5, but it's not exact so let's call it a T2 Mk7.

Nexy up is Night Force Crazylegs. This custom came about just because I had a second spare Crazylegs figure when I was working on the one I just posted. Since I find Night Force Crazylegs' colouring to be a bit boring, I figured I'd do a new Night Force version as well. He has the same accessories as the other one.
