On a side note (doesnt really apply to this build) while discussing PVC pipes. This tanker is made from 2 pieces of PVC. Also the axles to the Rolling Thunder wheels are 1/2 inch PVC (perfect fit) and they are ran through a larger piece of PVC.

You should look for toy fire trucks at the thrift stores for mirrors and other parts. I always see lots around here.

"I wish you could put duals on the back "
me too! I actually have 4 more of the pte wheels, but I think just doubling them would be too wide. I would have to try and shave all 4 and if I messed 1 up.

"trucks at the thrift stores"
just about every part of this came from thrift stores :) it is usually slim picking for toys around JXN MS thrift stores, but I get lucky every now and then. I actually picked up a couple fire trucks one Tonka gave parts to this project at one point.

thanks for following along and cheering me on guys!

even made narrower they would still be too wide. In order to make them fit you would need to shave a little off of all 8, plus shorten the axle, plus narrow the frame in back. That is just WAAAYY too much work for the little bit of gain in reality it would give you

with that shorter newbrite frame I had the back wheels covered so atleast I could pretend it had doubles :rotfl:

seriously though i'm cool with how it is going. I also want to say I don't hate vehicle customizing.i really just hate when things go wrong because you have way more time invested. I like fast and dirty customs :shifty:

just now finished editing pics of todays work. I perm. attached the rear frame parts ans forward frame/tank pieces. also stuck some spacers(go kart wheels) under the cut sleeper panels. I flipped the panels around to give the look of a curved front edge. I can also trim them at the rear if the hive so recommends :)

a quick shot of flat black and.....

That has enormous potential.

I just saw this movie pop up in one of my streaming queues. Hadn't thought of it in ages.

thanks spin! after so many missteps and false starts it's almost surreal still when I look at it.

my bumper went pretty well. I started with a piece of metal heatshield out of a fish tank lid. it already had the rectangle holes and one center round hole. after I got it cut (it cut with scissors!) to shape I tried several ways to "buff" it back to shiny metal. nothing worked I guess years of water scale and fish stank was just too togh.

I got the idea to just cover it in metallic tape and that was easy!
Image

Image

I needed some supports/ stand offs ,and after a few failed attempts ended up using 2 kart wheels I had lefy over. so now I've used 6 of those wheels on this rig!
Image

I still need to glue it down, but i'm waiting until final fitment of the goblin :)
Image

for anyone not familiar here is a source pic :)

today has gone really well.

I covered the fenders in a couple layers of metal tape to smooth out the rough plastic .i also extended my 1:25 exhaust pipes with straws covered in metal tape.
Image

Image

I also trimmed the excess off the rear of sleeper, which was a bit nerve wracking this late in the build.
Image

her are some metal button pieces I found just set on the air breaks?
Image

my mirrors are almost done. just the base running boards with the base round mirrors glued on.
Image

Image

I still need to figure out the roof top horns/lights
Image

these came off a much smaller rig
Image

had to run a pic through some filters.
