A decal could totally work. You made me go back and watch some of the behind the scenes for the movie. They only had the one prototype for filming so it was never driven and only used for when they needed nice shots of the car. They made several mold copies of the body. 2 were intentionally damaged for the film. And the other two were put on modified Volkswagan chasis. So even in the movie you are going to find minor changes from scene to scene. I think you find what works for the custom and go with it.

awesome pluv! any idea if the real life car was ever "in production" or just a concept car??

last year I almost went with that "blue lid" in my first pic. I thought I could do "my version" of a sci-fi alien ghost car, but in the end I wanted it to be truer to the movie :)

I did a lot of grinding/shaping yesterday. I went a bit too far on the rear quarters so I had to add some more sculpting. I also added more to the roof to smooth it into the front window.

I was messing around with the metal tape, but i'm not 100% on using it. i painted the engine blue/gray and drilled some holes for light effects, also I have an alternate engine to try aswell.

Wow! The paint really shows how smooth your sculpting is. Really nice work.

The car never went into production. I'm not even sure if they built more than the one which is why the movie's insurance wouldn't let them drive it around at all. A great backstory on how the build for the real vehicle can be found here.

I used sand paper to smooth all the sculpting.

last nights paint. 1 coat of metallic blue=purple and then a wash with just purple. I was thinking "80's trapper keeper" when I was selecting color and style.

next I plan on using that dark stain that I've used on a few things to darken the whole thing. I might paint the windows jet black, but i'm not sure until I see how the stain goes.

I really would like opinions on which engine to go with. I like how clean the stock engine under glass is, but that clear blue add on sure looks cool lit up. thoughts?

I really think you need to sand that down some more especially around the window and the front so you can see it's lines. I used to custom build a lot of model cars way back in the day. If you start adding more paint it will look even more round. I'd use a big sanding block so it stays even and straight not waivy. Looks good but it can look awesome.

sanding the big non square/flat areas was a real pain. all I had was a single coarse piece of sandpaper. I appreciate your advise, but I don't think i'm up to sanding all this paint back off. i think that's one reason I gravitate towards weathered and battered wasteland type themes.

I was wondering why you covered up the front window? I learned a lot building model hot rods it was really fun but a lot of work. Have you ever tried real bondo ? It works great.

I used the interior canopy/glass out of a different rc car to get a better shape than the factory Ferrari base. i'm planning on painting the front and side glass black.

I've never used bondo. I used up the last of my aves on this build so I've got to reorder. how is the bondo as far as chemically? can you use your bare hands to work it? smell?

I've never put a model together either. I think I got a couple as gifts when I was a kid, but never could get into it.
