Another excellent batch.

Chain Viper - Great combination of viper and Mercer v2 parts. I've never really decided how to use Mercer v2. His colors are a match for the v1 viper, which makes me want to use him alongside them even though the figure is supposed to be him as a joe.

Crimson Asp - awesome job translating her into o-rng parts, I love it. You really nailed the 2 tone green uniform. It's difficult to make these newer female characters in this format because of what limited parts we have to work with. I'd like to redo my custom someday, she's one of the better concepts to come from the club.

Daina - Instantly recognizable as the devils due version, fantastic use of parts and nice modifications.

Desert Wolf - I had to look this one up, I didn't realize how many figures there were in the last year or so of sigma. Never had heard of this one. Great custom, I like the parts combination, he works really well as a new joe.

Lift-Ticket - His original head is a little off. There's a fine balance when it comes to head sizes on o-ring figures. Hasbro went way too small for instance during the comic pack era. Good call with the scoop head, the smirk is what gave the original some character. The marauder inc. helmet works perfectly.

Longslide - Very cool custom, great concept behind this one. The paint job really sells him as a new figure. Great work.

Moray Eels - Nice parts combo, that eco flint helmet works much better on a cobra figure. The black and red looks very slick.

Shipwreck - Very solid devils due shipwreck. If I could ever learn how to paint arm joints without them chipping, I'd love to make my own someday with that torso/arm combo. This was probably the best redesign from those comics.

Storm Shadow - Nice job repainting his backpack and sword, those should never have been made in red. The added gray to the shinguards is a nice touch. I need to know more about this chrome ink you've been using.

You got that right.

Completely agree. To me, much of the DDP run was pretty meh, but they did a good job on this design.

It's a liquid ink pen made by Molotow called Liquid Chrome. It's kinda finicky to work with, you really have a limited time to apply it before it starts to dry, at which point you can't really add any more without messing it up. And if you don't apply a clear coat over top of it, it smudges extremely easily. But I've found a thin layer of varnish works quite well, it does reduce the shine a bit but you make up for it by being able to handle it without ruining the finish.

ARAH Joes in general have heads that aren't completely to scale with the rest of the figure. This isn't a bad thing by itself – because of how important faces are to how we see people, it's better for small-scale people like this to have a somewhat larger-than-scale head. But some figures take it too far, and the first version of Shockwave is one of the worst offenders. His head is huge and bulky, so it called for a replacement. Thus, this custom. In fact, I have two alternate heads for this one: Shockwave v3 for a maskless head, and Beach Head for the masked version. He has a cap that fits both heads. I also painted some details black to give the figure some more variety of colour.

Head – Beach Head
Alternate head – Shockwave v3
All other parts – Shockwave

Hat, submachine gun, pistol – Marauder Inc.
Backpack, knife - Shockwave

Snake Eyes
Ninja Force Commando

Near the end of the ARAH line, someone at Hasbro decided that articulation wasn't really that important in GI Joe figures, despite that being one of their biggest selling points. This thinking resulted in, for example, Ninja Force Snake Eyes in 1993. The design of the figure (artistic, rather than mechanical) was not bad at all, so this custom is intended to give us something like this figure in a solid ARAH format. I used a grey-blue for the highlights instead of the original's bright blue, so it's something like a combination of the Ninja Force colours and the grey of the classic version 2.

Head – custom sculpt (Krexx Radek)
Arms – Snake Eyes v5
Torso – Snake Eyes v4
Waist – Road Pig
Upper legs – Snake Eyes v2
Lower legs – Sneak Peek

Submachine gun – unknown
Sword – Snake Eyes
Claws – Storm Shadow v2

This is an upgrade of the original Snow Job using a head from Angel Forge that is presumably intended exactly for this purpose. Other than the head and some painted details, I also upgraded his weapon. I'm not a fan of laser rifles in GI Joe, expecially for a character noted to be an expert marksman like Snow Job. His accessory bears more than a passing resemblance to a Beretta AR-70/223 assault rifle, so I added a magazine from Marauder Inc. to improve its look.

Head – custom sculpt
All other parts – Snow Job

Accessories – Snow Job (rifle modified with magazine from Marauder Inc.)

Beach Head
Sea Devils Ranger

The Sea Devils are my first attempt at a full subteam for GI Joe. It came about when I did a new custom of the Devil's Due version of Shipwreck. I mixed a nice blue colour for his sweater and hat (a mix of basic blue and intermediate blue), but I made way too much of it. It's such a pleasant colour that I decided to build a whole team around it, and the natural theme (both based on the colour and that Shipwreck would be a member) was water. So I came up with the Sea Devils, a Joe team that specializes in amphibious, littoral and riverine operations. Unlike existing subteams, I wanted to do a significant proportion of new characters to go along with the existing Joes who fit in with the idea, and use a relatively consistent colour scheme involving the Shipwreck blue, intermediate blue, and light and medium gray.

Beach Head was an obvious choice for the team. I gave him Skidmark's arms for the texture to match his balaclava, carved some texture into the neck area, and based the camo pattern on the original.

Head, torso, waist, legs – Beach Head
Arms – Skidmark

Submachine gun - fodder
Backpack - Low-Light

Gator
Sea Devils Attack Boat Operator

Gator is an original character, designed to be a member of the Sea Devils. His filecard information is below.

File Name: Hayes, Dustin S.
Birthplace: Toronto, ON, Canada
Service Branch: Navy
Grade: E-6 (PO1)
Primary MOS: Special Warfare Boat Operator
Secondary MOS: Navy Diver

Born in Canada, Gator moved to Florida at a very young age, and grew up in the swamps and wetlands of the Everglades. He worked many odd jobs as a young man, from pizza cook and delivery driver, to boating and SCUBA instructor, to billboard installation, to semi-pro off-road racing, before deciding that his skills would be put to their best use in the Navy. As one of the best fast-attack boat pilots in the Navy, he was a natural fit for the GI Joe Sea Devils team.

“Gator treads the lines between aggression and recklessness when driving a boat. It drives his commanders to distraction at times, but it also makes him completely unpredictable to the bad guys, and he's never failed a mission yet. So he makes it work.”

Head – Low-Light
Arms – Alpine
Torso, legs – Roadblock v2
Waist - Dart

Submachine gun – Marauder Inc.
Knife – Ssgt. Rock 'n Roll v2

As a Marine, the Joes' first Marine in fact, Gung-Ho was an obvious choice to join the Sea Devils. The camo pattern on his legs is based on the camo from the original Gung-Ho figure.

Arms – Outback v4
Torso – Updraft
Waist – Hardball
Legs – Gen. Flagg

Tracker
Sea Devils Navy SEAL

For Tracker, I didn't have a spare head so I used Gen. Flagg instead, which has a very strong resemblance. Instead of brown I painted the hair dirty blond to match the card art better than the original, and it helps to differentiate him from Flagg as well. I kept his appearance pretty simple like the original, the boots I chose to kind of resemble the original without being as goofy-looking. I drilled out the barrel of the submachine gun using a pin vice.

Head – Gen. Flagg
Arms, torso – Outback
Waist, legs – Outback v4

Backpack – Lady Jaye
Submachine gun – unknown
Holster – Chuckles
Pistol – Marauder Inc.
Swim fins - unknown

Beachcomber
Sea Devils Navy Corpsman

Beachcomber is an original character, designed to be a member of the Sea Devils. His filecard information is below.

File Name: Allan, Louis O.
Birthplace: Piedmont, CA
Service Branch: Navy
Grade: E-5 (PO2)
Primary MOS: Hospital Corpsman (Marine Force Recon Corpsman)
Secondary MOS: Basic Water Survival Instructor

The Marines rely mostly on the Navy Hospital Corps to provide support services to their operations, including combat medics. Beachcomber went through the pipeline to become a Special Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsman (SARC), the most combat-ready medical unit in the armed forces. SARCs are assigned to serve with Marine units, so like a Marine they must be a capable fighter regardless of their speciality. Beachcomber is cool-headed, low-key, personable, and laid-back. Before joining the Navy, he was planning to become a naturalist, and learned survival and navigation skills that still serve him to this day.

“Beachchomber sometimes struggles with the violence required in his job, but his desire to do his duty overcomes any reservations he has when the bullets start flying, and he has no shortage of courage. He delves into nature during his downtime in order to relieve his mental stress, taking long drives or cruises along the shore. A bit of an oddball, but great at his job.”

Head – Col. Courage (modified)
Arms – Roadblock v2
Torso – Low-Light v3
Waist, legs - Pathfinder

Rifle – Recondo v3
Knife – Steeler v4
Backpack – Cobra Trooper

Devil Dog
Sea Devils Marine Security

Devil Dog is an updated evrsion of an original character that I first did last year. His filecard information is below.

File Name: Sandoval, Silvio O.
Birthplace: Sweetwater, TX
Service Branch: Marines
Grade: E-4 (Cpl.)
Primary MOS: Riverine Assault Craft Marine
Secondary MOS: Amphibious Assault Vehicle Marine

Marine Corps boot camp is the longest and hardest of all basic training in the U.S. Armed Forces, and Devil Dog sailed through his with flying colors. He actually hates the water, and detests getting wet, which may seem off for a Marine. But he doesn't let the water distract him. Instead, he gets angry at it, and uses that anger to fuel his focus. Even his Drill Instructors at MCRD San Diego were almost impressed with the determination that Devil Dog shows in those situations. Almost.

“They don't call him Devil Dog because he's cute and cuddly and easy to get along with. The man is a Marine, and a Marine is ornery, disciplined and always ready for a fight. And once he's on you, he doesn't let up until the battle is done.”

Head – Duke v6
Arms, waist, legs – Tollbooth
Torso – Falcon

Helmet – Sgt. Savage
Rifle – fodder
Backpack – Dusty

Leatherneck
Sea Devils Marine Rifleman

Leatherneck is a Marine, and Marines are obvious choices for the Sea Devils. I used a 90s Bazooka head, since the moustache works so well as Leatherneck, and a Falcon lower half since that's what the 90s version of Leatherneck used anyway.

Head – Bazooka v3
Arms, waist, legs – Falcon
Torso - Skidmark

Rifle – Marauder Inc.
Grenade launcher – Marauder Inc.
Backpack – Repeater

Wet-Suit
Sea Devils Navy SEAL

As a Navy SEAL, Wet-Suit was a good choice for the Sea Devils. I ended up doing a variation of a previous custom I did of Wet-Suit, using the same torso and legs as before, but using the New Sculpt-era head instead of the mulleted 90s version. Since you can see his upper arms, which none of his official releases have done, I felt justified in giving him a tattoo based on the Navy's Special Warfare Operator specialty mark.

Head – Wet-Suit v7
Arms – Duke v8
Torso, waist – Muskrat
Legs - Mutt

Carbine, hat – Marauder Inc.
Backpack – Big Bear

Those are great! Need a group shot, and no subteam is complete without repainted enemy vehicles! ;)

Really nice work.
