I haven't posted this project since last year. It's a monster project. I decided to make it an ongoing project with annual phases.

Last year's phase was the table, structure, and flight deck.

This year's phase was the waves/ocean. I was really stuck on how to do them. Foam and sculpting materials were options, but I ended up using fabric. I asked a friend, who's a quilter, about working with fabric to create wave shapes. She suggested using fabric stiffener, which locked the folds in place. Lots of painting and many gloss coats later, here we are...

The waves are sturdy enough to support small vehicles without collapsing.

Next year's phase will probably be the tower. It's thrown together for now so you can have a rough feel for the finished look.

So I have to admit that when I heard fabric for the water I mentally said “oh, no!”...

But hot damn if I wasn’t wrong. That turned out incredible

Thanks, guys.

The waves at the bow are about 70% what I was looking for, but I'm happy with them. If I had figured out a way to make them curve, as opposed to being straight lines, they'd look even more organic. But, as they are, they get the job done. Fabric was an interesting material for me, since I generally avoid it at 1:18 scale for clothing.

I used the Storm Eagle and Vector jets because they are waaaay underscaled for the figures, making them looking them smaller on the flight deck. The Vectors are 30 years old, but still retain a futuristic feel.
