Hi there!

My daughter Is having a birthday party soon, and we decided to do a Fortnite-theme. Nothing great, just some hundreds of popsicle sticks to make wooden structures.... and a P.A.N.D.A character.

I must be some kind of crazy person to do this as a first time project, but... I like to work on it. Helps me to relief the stress of a day of work.

This is my start:

The current status:

File comment: The current status. I suck at "shedding" (is the verb right? to shed?)

And my goal:

I will try to "shed" more, then add some female shapes using epoxi.

What are your thoughts guys?

getting a good start! nice job thinning down the torso!

a stormtrooper belt and leg might get those white elements going!

I'm anxious as hell for many reasons, but... got time to sit down today.

Almost the same as the previous post, but, with more scratching work

I was "LASER BLAST" bricks (really), so I've did a quick test with kid's clay. I've tried to do the legs at once, but without success. On this test, I've made 4 "guide lines" on the leg, so they can get filled later

Finally, the epoxi phase.

so the clay your using isn't permanent? I think you are overworking yourself, but you will def. get some practice mocking it up sculpt wise, tearing it down, then sculpting with epoxy!

we all have different ways to get "there" and your well on your way. cuts, curses, and burn outs aside it's really fun :)

Ah no, sorry for the lack of clarity. Just the first photo with clay uses kid's clay. All the others are on epoxi.

I'm quite depressed lately, so, please, forgive my language.

I've asked myself a lot of times if I have brain damage. Why I'm doing this? It's a very small piece of art and I've barely did anything else, the party is in two days.

Anyway, starting the head, FINALLY!
Time to be freakin scared again. Those damm simple shapes are never simple as they look. One mistake, and you can drokk it all!
Image
So.... to fill the sphere-like shape, I'm using... I dont know the exact word in english, but it's.... a "duct tape", but, made of paper:

Then... I've studied.... drew a lot.... and, while my computer was away, I made it....

I made a lemur!

Ok... I've broke all the extra pieces, to work again later.
I have a limit of 3 images to post per-post, so I will jump to another problem: the character have 2 belt-like things on a leg, and I think it's a import detail to have this on the model phase.

I've tried to use a knife-like tool to shape the belts. Without success. So.. I've used a sand paper to make the leg smaller, then, make it big again, but make a space for the belt:

stick with it :)

finding parts closer to what you want makes it a lot easier. sometimes though you work with what you have and that makes it hard, but in the end it will be worth it.

masking tape with sculpt over it will work ,but if you move it a lot in posing I think the tape will degrade. I might of taken a wooden drawer pull knob, rubber bouncy ball ,or even a plastic ping pong type if small enough and sculpt over that. really I probably would just sculpt the whole head and then be mad when it was so top heavy!

doing is learning. keep sharing and reading on here.

MISSION FAILED

Turns out I've purchased the s.h.i.t.t.i.e.s.t paint available (sorry for the language, but serve as a warning, never get HobbyArt!)

The black one was bad, but... did 'some' job:

The white one was.... evil... EVIL!

(A friend mentioned later: "Are you painting with toothbrush or liquidpaper?")

Well... I'm broke, depressed, and winter is coming.... it will take some time to try those things again...

white is the very hardest to paint close second is yellow. if at all possible I use white parts, if not I spray paint flat white with .88 cent Walmart before I paint with cheap white acrylic also from Walmart.

looks like you tried to cover it with one thick coat. next time paint thinner coats letting it dry in between coats. patience is hard and it might be my lack of patience that makes me a "fast and dirty" customizer. I will find my huge early paint fail and post a pic here so you can see we all have to learn the hard way. i read a hundred times to make thin coats of paint and still tried to paint everything in one night. you just have to do it until it clicks and everything starts looking the way you like.

these were not my very first customs, bet very early in my journey. I used applebarrel or similar cheap Walmart green gloss, and a lot of it all at once. as you can see it looked terrible! I kept these guys for several years before taking the parts I liked and pitching the bodies. one day i'll make this set right!

winter is a perfect time to customize :like: you have talent. keep at it!
