Lately my toy heavy FB newsfeed has been filled with amazing pictures of the new 1:12 scale Popeye. It’s truly an amazing figure, and I thought long and hard about plopping down $100 for it even though I don’t collect in that scale. Then inspiration struck. I realized I could accomplish the different outfits and looks with hacks based articulation, so I pieced some parts together. Found the right mash up of hacks and zombie lab; pulled from a decade’s worth of fodder hording, and lucked into a head that I had multiples of that I could adapt to my needs without having to hunt down a cartoonish sculpt. Then it was down to details and fun. And a set. And pics. And a challenge from pluv to add a “squirting spinach” feature. I think I’m done with Popeye now but I feel I’m just getting started in his verse. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

reminds me a lot of one by sgcaper? maybe?? I know there was a bad ars popeye on here a few years ago. only crit would be hands. I know you want realism but some bigger blockier hands would really look good.maybe from thewwe rumbler line or even 6" fodder. I will gladly pay you on Tuesday....ug ug ug. |

yeah, I'll get to more of his mates in time. 2D - yeah, I check out SG's prior work, and JM70's as well. The more direct inspiration with the swappable parts was to mimic the new 1:12 figure that is out. And you nailed it. For me, the plausible proportions work better than cartoonish. Otherwise (for me) why even bother using the action figure format? |

Because of this custom, we watched the Robin Williams Popeye last night. Still cheesey. Still charming. Nowhere near as badass as this custom. |

That is absolutely delightful and pretty ingenious. Now I need to go find where I can stream that movie for the kids, |

Thanks fellas. Means a lot. Between the swappable parts, the smaller accessories, and then the set to show him in, this is one of the efforts I'm most proud of. |
