Another batch of cool customs. What brand of gold paint do you use?

Thanks ;) . In a few more waves of customs we'll reach my modern 25th style customs too :P .

So fun that Pacman custom :lol: . I love those CCs heads.

Rambo, in those times I used Humbrol Gold (n16 I think), Enamel. After it dried I stopped using it, as I needed to clean the brushes with turpentine (aguarrás) and it was very smelly. Now I use the modern Humbrol gold, but that is water based and is very similar, and covers very well. Just recently I finished it and I am surviving mixing black with a huge pot of poster paint gold, but it's not very recommendable.

Here we continue;

Wombat; as a source of inspiration, I reviewed all my vehicles looking for vehicles that didn't come with a driver (a thing that I hated when I was a kid - and I still do!). I thought the Mobile Battle Bunker needed a pilot, and so here it is. Maybe I did it a bit too Cobra like, but anyway.

CLASSIFIED Viper; a Viper so secret, nobody knows what it does, or who it is :) . I just went recombining parts, used a cool Lanard mask, and thought it looked too strange for words, and so I came up with the idea.

Image

Image

Image

Reload Viper; a viper made to repair and resupply BATs on the battlefield. Their uniform is as is so BATs don't shoot at them, to make them think they are just another BAT ;) . I purposed the huge empty backpack of a eco warrior to carry bits and pieces.

Image

Image

Hydrus; named after a zone in Mars, this is the new vehicle that will bring Mars under Cobra's control! I had this vehicle in very poor condition, and thought it had some sort of lunar rover vibes.

Here is the Hydrus, a ruthless Cobra vehicle to dominate the lands of Mars itself! designed by Destro and piloted by the new Mars Vipers.

Nice customs again.
Wombat looks very nice. How did you make the canopy for the Hydrus?
So the Humbrold gold is shiny?

Thanks ;) . Rambo, the canopy of the Hydrus is actually from a Visionaries vehicle, I think. Quite valuable, I wouldn't do it now! when I customized it, I didn't know.

About the Humbrol Gold, both are very metallic, I would say satin, when the pot is new and properly mixed. Those serpentor customs, I didn't varnish them nor anything, they are as the paint came out of the pot. Sometimes, at least the enamel version, lost a bit of brightness over the years. The acrylic is much more stable, less metallic and yellowy I would say.

2DARK2C, for that figure I was participating in a contest that didn't allow any kind of photo editing, so to make it look more impressive and win the contest I went to all kinds of troubles to get the perfect pic :) .

More;

Here is Zhen Wenli, the ruthless commander of the Golden Dragons.

The Golden Dragons are China's newest team of specialized soldiers, to fight against GI Joe and Cobra.

From left to right;

Warmask; renegade Samurai
Daodan; Obliterator driver
Snake Shadow; Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow impersonator, renegade minor Arashikage ninja
Zhen Wenli; Leader
Dr. Yao; evil scientist
Tmurtakan; martial arts mongol expert

Here is the Obliterator, a vehicle for my group of the Golden Dragons (chinese answer to GI Joe and the Oktober Guard). Made over a Snow Cat with a Rolling Thunder missile.

I have more individual pics of the members if you wish to see them ;) .

Many thanks ;) .

Now we get onto 2011;

Aqua Viper; another nemesis; I thought Deep Six needed a enemy, in deep sea operations. Thus (and due to too many Fast Draw legs!) was born Aqua Viper!

This is a custom I made for the Custom Figure Wars ultimate contest, that was 4th. It was also presented to the http://www.nuevadominion.com GI Joe contest under the "Crossover" category, which he won.

The story;
As Cobra plans on taking over the Bialyan Republic, unhappy citizens paid by Cobra take arms against their "corrupt" government. Using top-of-the-range Bialyan technology that have been damaged (repaired by Cobra) by weather conditions in secret bunkers and warehouses, these troops are a formidable foe. Their armour and weapons could fail, or even worse, explode, at any moment, that makes them more dangerous if anything. Should Cobra fail in the Bialyan invasion, they could be put to a good use fighting GI Joe or the Oktober Guard in any place of the globe.

The custom; using a Cobra Commander ROC, and Snake Eyes POC armour, these custom has been quite easy to do, the important part was the sculpting of the head, knee pads, feet, and thigh plates. One of the first customs I've tried to try and represent oxid in the armour.

This is the Cobra Intruder, a cobra specialist in breaking through enemy lines and infiltrating in GI Joe bases with his disruptor suit, where he uses his electric mace to smash through doors and secret files.

Reporter was a paparazzi of the yellow press that was sued for defamation, breaking into private property and arson attack. When he was going to be condemned, the Cobra lawyers managed to absolve him in exchange for passing to be a Cobra agent, the Cobra Commander response to Scoop. Now he spies for Cobra and spoils the good name of GI Joe!

Here is an ARAH repaint I made for a contest, the Cosmo Viper. I thought that the most logical camouflage pattern in space will be space itself. This custom won the repaint category in the Nueva Dominion Crimson contest.

I love the wilder paint schemes your trying out, like on Intruder and Cosmo Viper.

Also cool to see a modern style figure too!

my goodness! i believe you made a huge leap in between the last batch and these! all your other stuff is cool, but these are just jaw dropping. the paint isn't just well done it is so unique. in the intruder and cosmo so tiny and beautiful!

my favorite is the bialyan. he is just art in 3d! the new construction is where i have gravitated so i am bias to that, but it wouldn't matter "what" is under that cool figure! i was hoping to see an army of them!

Thanks :) . At one point, the modern joes start to become readily available and cheap, and so I started customizing them :) . In Europe, till the ROC movie figures started rolling around, getting your hands on a 25th was quite complicated. I have always liked very wild paint schemes, and when you apply it over a very realistic or detailed body-paintwork, it pops out even more.

Yes, after much customizing, I improved quite a bit. Here I left out some customs that I had already posted before, so the leap is more noticeable. I've customized armies of a few figures, but it becomes very tiresome! and I nearly always customize damaged figures, or figures missing absolutely everything, etc, so they hardly come in packs!

This afternoon more customs!

I missed posting these; I did them in 2010, the Battleforce 3000!

Background; It has passed many years since the government project "Battle Force 2000", where the most advanced weaponry and technology of the time. Now, all this weapons have been already introduced in the regular Gi Joe's, and most of the members have fallen in battle. It has come the time of the Battle Force 3000!

Every member of the group carries a suit of a special alloy that makes them invulnerable to laser fire and low caliber guns. Each member carries the most modern, classified, top-of-the-range weaponry and gadgets that makes them a threat to the enemy and to themselves if something goes wrong. The best way to test them? against the Cobra Legions.

Strategix Leader and strategist of the group.

that's a sweet team. you have all the pics and write ups you should put all these in the gallery. it will make it where people will have easier access to see your work and you can share one link with all your work. also you get put in the running for the joe custom awards!

as example here are all my gallery entries :)
http://www.joecustoms.com/userops/profile.php?uid=8325

and everyone has their gallery page automatically linked to their posts. see bellow (jc CUSTOMS) button.

Thanks ;) . I have a couple of questions about submitting customs though; what has put me off, is that there seems no way to post comments or impressions on the site, there is just the like button. Is every joe autoposted on the Facebook page, and then there people can comment on it? I see this as a big backdraw, if not the site would be wonderful (a bit like the Figurerealm page, where all members can comment and ask questions, etc).

Secondly, how do the custom awards work? all users are asked to vote? when are the votes done? all the customs you post automatically participate in that year's edition?

Sorry for so many questions :) !
