Cobra Commander Version 1 is up in the gallery. This one was on a to do list for a few months, completed a few weeks ago. I had the parts for quite a while, but was holding off due to concerns I had with trying to paint match (or completely repaint) the light blue. In the end the blue was in fact repainted all over, but with a blended blue that matches very closely to the figure’s original plastic. This figure basically follows the same build and bits as my previous hooded commander, both inspired by Hisstanker's Azrael13's Atkins Design CC custom (but without holster or paint wash).

Below is a study and check with other versions in my collection (before final tweaks were added). Left to Right: 2007 25th, 2012 Ultimate, 1983 V1.5 (bad silver sharpie repainted mask from when I was young), 2019 (lastest custom version), 2008 DVD Battles Pack (v36). I repainted the necks from the light blue to black to match the original figures and to get more black apps onto the figures.

Below are composites with the 2012 release (longtime stand-in for this Cobra O13 set), and with my 2019 Hooded Commander (as well as with that version's alternate battle mask head):

Finally, I wanted to take as shot showing how this new figure looks in my overall Cobra shelf display, but lighting for photos is really bad in that room. Below is a small recreation of the setup in my photobox.

With the better lighting control for shades and highlights, I am allowed to run the photo above through various photo app filters for the final picture below:

We got so many Cobra Commander figures in this era! I've got so many in my fodder box with most figures still complete. I'm sure I'm not alone (though most probably had better sense than me and sold them).

For the 5 pack pic, I selected the ones I've previously used for my display shelf over the last ten years. For a while back then, I liked the darker hued one that came with the Target Ultimate Battle Pack (w/ MOBAT, red HISS, etc), but decided the lighter blue was better as setting him apart from the rest of the surrounding blueshirts. And for a time, the blue Resolute Cobra Commander served on the shelf--but that figure was so short relative to other figures. That's when I began triple stacking his display stand on the shelf. The 2012 Cobra Commander has held the shelf spot since he was released--until now.

For the 5 pack pic, I would have liked to have included the Bobby Vala remix figure from the 2017 Missile Command set just for live side-by-side comparison, but I'm not paying current market prices for that figure. It looks fine and I appreciate the effort done in finding the sculpted parts to emulate the original (and love the red pant stripe). But those 2012 legs are really long and the 2007 torso is prettly short--making for a potential proportion nightmare. And too much light blue! That's one of the reasons I like the long boots and gloves on my 2019 custom--even though they're not "accurate" to the original figure.
