As I was writing the lore for the characters, I noted that Gargon (The Beast from Beyond) was the first known Time Enemy. I made the other characters field specialists and decided to keep Gargon as the Time Operations Assistant to the Master of Time as well as their super powered backup when things get really nasty and they need a walking doomsday event (aka Gargon). So I reached the end of his bio and realized something... he has six legs and NO arms! How does he operate the machinery? How does he eat? How does he interact with the world? Biting everything remains believable to a certain point and then it hit me. Terron/Gargon came with a single accessory! The Command Laser!

Image

Terron/Gargon came with this boy sized accessory so that it could be used against him whenever he did his walking attack. So then I was like, ok fine, but how do I make sense of it in the lore?

Behold:

Image

Yes. This attempt is probably worse than Gargon v1.

Image
Image

It was built using scrap plastic I found lying around. The plastic was glued and folded into a box shape and the clear bit was cut from a discarded contact lens case. The whole thing is uneven. I tried to sand it evenly but I'm really bad at it. The sticker was made using photoshop just replicating the original as much as possible. I painted everywhere else including the top part with the 3 lights. That part was rough. Really hard to keep lines straight. I did manage to squeeze in a cool gimmick:

Image
Image
Image
Image

I built an engine block on the underside. The engine block is from a KO Transformer. I drilled a hole in its centre so that it could be compatible with the flight stand. Now it's a helper drone! Combat is the after thought with this model. This rebuilt drone is intended to be Gargon's hands. It uses it's lasers to pick things up or trap things rather than kill things.

I may do a v2 but I am comfortable with this attempt despite it's numerous flaws.

I love seeing folks bring in the old adventure team figures and themes into the 1/18 realm. Your interpretations remind of the fun we had using our imaginations as we told our stories and had our adventures. Great job!

Great concept and v1. What about a set of wheels or legs that plug into that hole, just for fun.

Also a hole in the beast to plug in would allow the flyer to follow home for pics easily.

I never thought of it that way haha! I looked at it as like reinventing the old forgotten wheel. I like reawakening old leftover concepts. But it's so true. I did this a lot as a kid. Taking a flashlight and essentially making it a drone haha.

The wheels or legs ideas aren't bad. The wheels one in particular gravitate. But I really like the idea of a way to integrate the platform on the Beast! If I can find a nice well hidden spot on the toy, I'll drill a small hole to insert the stand. Neat ideas!

That is a genius use of parts. Very cool and imaginative.

Thanks! I try really hard to be as creative as possible with the customs I involve myself with. Speaking of, here is one major and two minor updates. This Time Enemies Project should have ended last year. However, I found out new things about them as I continued penning bios and looking at their images. I believe these updates officially complete them.

Intruder Warrior

Starting off the list is the Intruder Warrior. Remember her?

Image

Well, to make her look come closer to her superior officer, I changed her bottom half. Now she has better articulation and still looks as tough as Intruder Armour! Built using BFS Female Orc Conqueror's legs.

Image

Here she is facing off against Rom.

Image

Darkon

Next up is Darkon! I was looking at some pictures and somehow missed the 'SJ' logo on his stomach!

Image
.
Soon as I found out I mistakenly omitted it, I added it immediately using putty. Very minor. With all the black this guy wears you can barely tell its even there anyway. He's officially complete at least.

Image
Image

Zargonite

Back in the 80s, when promoting the Action Man Space Rangers outfits and artillery, they released the Space Arms. They were a set of specially designed firearms you could give to your Action Man Space Rangers to bolster their arsenal. Clever marketing if you ask me.

Image

I looked at Zargonite's loadout of a lone pistol and felt that since she is a Space Ranger Pirate, she should have access to Space Arms. So I made a set. Included in the set are a Standard Issue Blaster, Arboc High Impact Blaster Pistol, Plasma Rifle and shotgun-like Flak Charger. Each weapon has a dual function.

Image
Image
Image

You may notice in the images that her visor has a dim red hue. That's due to another detail I missed when building her. The original Zargonite Outfit had a very dark maroon shade: easy to miss. I applied some paint on the rear of the visor to give it the look. Finally, added a combat knife. I think she's pretty complete!

Image

I have already started a new OC project that looks at what a high fantasy cast of RPG heroes would look like if their designs crossed genres. So far, an Orc and human have been in the conceptual stages. I am looking at maybe a dwarf or gnome for the next. More on this soon.

Such a great project. All the updates were worth it and push these above and beyond. Now you need to submit them to the gallery!

I can't wait to see your fantasy stuff.

Progress Update

Still in the conceptual phase of the Orc. I don't believe I'll commit to this look. Still a bit cliche. I do plan on making her a brown orc with grey war paint. Working on getting her a brown body. The armour is not working. Might keep the breastplate but gotta work out the rest. More on her later. Super open to suggestions.

Image

This second is a concept for Margax Shaman's totem. The idea is that it represents a Margax spirit of one of the 4 elements. Let me know what you guys think. If you guys like it, I'll replicate this very design but more refined.

I like where the Ork is going. Interested to see what you do if you get rid of the armor skirt.

The totem is interesting. It looks similar in style to the Venus of Willendorf. It has that pre-historic feel of form.

Thanks! Venus of Willendorf, huh? I looked it up. Interesting association! The vibe of something ancient of reverent of what came before is defintely a theme here. Will continue with this template and make them.

Ok, so thanks to everyone's comments, I went back to the drawing board for Gargon's drone. During development, the drone became a droid and that droid received a name: Torchy. Torchy assists Gargon with all the things he needs to interact with. I replaced the previous dirty clear plastic bit with another I found lying around the apartment. A bit cleaner and better to look at.

Image
Image
Image

Then came the super interesting part. That engine block came with two other connecting pieces that would fold in and out. One was used as the cover for Darkon's Power Light Vest pack (which I'll show off another day). The other got a hole drilled into it.

Image
Image

Why? So that I can do this:

Image
ImageImage

Torchy, The Command Laser Assistant Droid can now grab things! Using the Command Laser technology to create hard-light shapes, it can create pincer hands to pick up objects. Or in this case... people!

Image
Image

I should add that I purchased a SHF flight stand to complete the look. Gargon and Torchy are practically complete... for now. You never know with customizing. At least the pair are ready enough for gallery status.

Very cool and fun! I wonder if you could use a red wash to make the clear more lasery. It's great clear though.

Lasery huh? Lemme look into that :) You reminded me about doing this wash thing. It was suggested that I try it on Gargon. It was suggested that using a black wash would bring out his details more. So I think I'm going to redirect the focus there. I tried applying wash on a subject before and it didn't go well both times. I may have to watch more videos about it.

I just watched it. Ok ok. Going to buy some washes. Thanks a lot! I'll also look about making a custom wash while I'm at it.

Whilst the Dark Fantasy project is going on, still rounding up the Time Enemies and also doing what started as a minor repair job into what will eventually become Classified Scarlett:

Image

This all started after I posed her for some photos and both her knees just... cracked and tore. I wasn't gutted actually. I felt like this was an opportunity. Rather than lazily pay more for a replacement 30th Anniversary Scarlett, I thought: "Hey! Amma make Classified Scarlett!" So far MTF arms and lower legs, BFS Vitruvian HACKS Blank thighs and an assortment of MTF accessories. Looking for a crossbow bolt backpack or I'll make one 2DARK2C style.

Image

Next upgrade I am super serious about is replacing the MTF feet with her original 30th Anniversary feet for that ankle pivot articulation.
