These are super clean. That CL is excellent, you definitely hit the factory look perfectly.

Thanks much!

Here’s a little peek behind the curtain for anyone who might be interested. The one on the right is a rough draft using the year 2000 release of the mold. I didn’t do any trimming or sanding on that one. No inscribed panel lines for better color separation. No care taken during painting. Just used it to prototype the paint scheme/mixtures I’d use. Final version using 1986 Wet-Suit on the left.

I didn't realize how impressive the paint job on Torpedo was until seeing those up-close photos. Did you inscribe the lines yourself on the helmet, or was that just how sharp that mold is? The paint lines are perfect: no muddiness at the bottom of the divot or anything.

I inscribed the lines using a steel dental pick.

Just took my time and followed the existing contours of the helmet. The trick is not to apply too much pressure; just trace the lines you want and etch them deeper a little at a time. Makes keeping the paint colors separate so much easier. I paint the lighter color first and let the darker color fill the line.

Works well in ABS plastic and polystyrene, but wouldn’t work in the softer plastic of modern style figures. The pick just sorta tears at the softer plastic and makes a mess.

Hm, I guess I explained it wrong. These are new panel lines.
Hell, if all you’re doing is making existing lines deeper, it doesn’t matter as much how much pressure you apply, cause it’s hard to mess it up. It’s only when you’re starting new lines that you have to be careful and take it slow.

Nice job on all of them. The Cobra trooper got my attention in particular. I think I have seen the CG head and Viper torso combination before.

That recipe for the Grape-Soda Vipers might get stolen so I can make some of my Cell-Vipers...

Thanks! I haven’t seen it before, but I’m sure mine isn’t the first.

It’s a decent recipe and should be used for something more serious and menacing than a Grape-Soda Viper. I say go for it.

Here’s a close-up of my painted Viper. I used the panel line technique around the reflective face-plate. Keeps the border between the colors nice and sharp and helps the face-plate look like a separate piece.
(I also took the buckles off the vest cause I didn’t like the way they looked, and anyways he’s got a zipper.)

Great thread with a lot of great stuff!

- I actually prefer your Crazylegs over the Night Force version. The other gun looks better as well. Sweet!
- all black Snake Eyes is too black IMO, but I like the recipe.
- Snow Serpent is definitely an improvement with the grey accents.
- using the CG head on a Viper body. I wouldn't have expected that if I heard of it beforehand.
- inscribing lines is new to me, but wow, look at those results on the Viper head! I'm gonna try that technique soon.

Wow. I consider that high praise.

That’s fair. I went with all black because I was trying to evoke the spirit of ‘82 Snake-Eyes with a more modern sculpt, but it lacks the charm of the original.

That was my first Joe custom. Still one of my favorites.

Go for it! It’s easy to get the hang of.
