Those are some cool heads. Will you be making any to sell?

Unfortunately not selling anything at this time.

Here is a crappy video I made to give you guys a better idea about what I am talking about with regard to the textures.

That was actually very clarifying. I still only understood only about 1/4 of what was going on, but I get the concept for sure. Thanks for posting that.

No problem!

I am still very much a novice in Blender. The way that I learn it is I think of a specific action that I want to do, and try and find tutorials just on that. In fact, I had to watch a couple just to learn how to make that video. Once I get some kind of idea I will load up a model and just fiddle around with it. There are probably much faster and easier ways to do things that I just don't know yet.

Heads up, flash sale on Amazon for the ANYCUBIC Photon printer for 3 more hours. $364.65 right now. Wish I had the extra money laying around.

Does anyone know the legalities of transferring files like these?

I don't want to break any board rules or step on the original artists toes. I have no interest in profiting off of these. I just want to see the cool things that people would make with them.

It depends on the artist. Most of them will put a license agreement to them, with a lot being either creative commons or by credit (meaning you give the artist's name every time you give away the file). You can check where you got them to see what the creator says.

I'm going to have to do some research on this. I've gotten stuff from all over the internet. If I get it all figured out I will put them up somewhere like Thingiverse and link to them. It might take a while.

Great resources.

I would like to add that getting and learning Zbrush is more than worth it. They make massive additions every year and you never have to pay for these upgrades. I bought it about 4-5 years ago and it's made 3 major upgrades since then and I didn't have to pay an extra dime. I don't know another program nearly as powerful that operates like that. Photoshop will suck every dime they can get from you and not add a lot.

For example. The 2019 edition of Zbrush takes something that has been apart of it for a long time, Spotlight, and turns it into a very cutting edge hard surface modeler. I personally have only used Spotlight to load references. This single feature (and there's several others) is a game changer.

The only thing Zbrush doesn't do well is communicating size and volume. Since I started on Daz3D's Hexagon back in the day, I noticed this right away. Hex has real time sizing and volume that's real easy to manage. I usually develop base primitives that match sizes I'm looking for and then import them into my subtools in Zbrush.

I only just saw your comment, the thread was showing as read for me and I happened to notice the last post date and realized I hadn't read it. Glad you took the dive! Now that you've had it for about a month and a half, how's it going?

eh... ups and downs -

had a few quite awesome prints come out, had a few spaghetti monsters ... still getting the hang of it, and realizing i need to get more front-end file prep knowledge

Hypno just sent me this link, thinking I'll play again this weekend with stuff:

Yeah, the spaghetti can get frustrating. With that being an open build platform type printer, one thing you can do to improve success is enclose it. The enclosure can be something as simple as a large cardboard box you just set over it (although you'll want some sort of window in it so you can monitor it without lifting the box off constantly). This helps regulate heat for the plastic and cuts down on drafts to cut out some of the frustration.

Looks like I'm on board with resin printing for my birthday. Unfortunately it didn't come with any resin so I'm waiting for a Friday delivery. Meanwhile I'll play with the included slicing software. So far its really user friendly. Image
