What he said, and that's why I can't stop giggling. The in person transition is unsettling the first time. Kinda like the first time you saw a Magic Eye poster.

So, I upgraded my Mac to Big Sur and now my Cura slicing program no longer works ...

1. anyone have a suggestion for a slicing program that works with Big Sur?

or

2. if I send someone a file, could you process it for me to print?

I've heard good things about Lychee. No experience with it, but a lot of people who have problems with the latest versions of Chitubox have been switching to it.

I dont have an answer for that right away. I would think its in the settings.

Looking at the website it appears its designed for resin printers only. Sorry to get your hopes up.

So, to follow up on my own question: Ultimaker's Cura 4.8 has been released, and it works with Mac's Big Sur

I’m wondering if anyone can print me some 1:18 scale top hats. $ for your time and material.

I have a design question, as I have this fuselage that I need to figure out the best way to attach the wings too. It's a cylindrical fuselage and the wings need to attach in the center, unlike most model kits I have been trying to find inspiration that normally attach at the top or bottom of the fuselage. What I am going for is more like a missile configuration over a aircraft, but that isn't my only problem. I can't have the wings run through the fuselage, as I have details and interior that would be lost on that option. Also will need to slice the fuselage another time as the piece will not print on my printer, though would like to work out the design before cutting it up again. Would have just printed the fuselage with the wings, though printer too small for that to work. So with that I have came up with a few ideas, but hoping someone with experience doing something like this can help with picking the best option. I don't have any picture reference, but I hope I can explain them well enough to understand.

Idea 1) I would half the fuselage and the wings would have a barbell type of mount that would hold the wing in place. Or perhaps a slot cut into the wing that the fuselage halves would come together to lock in place. Both are the same idea, just different executions. Also thinking one might be stronger, just not sure which one without testing them.

Idea 2) This one might work 2 ways, as I was thinking of making the fuselage have a post/pin that the wing would slide onto. Might be the weakest option, but would be easy to do and having the fuselage with the post/pin would maximize the space I have to work with inside. Though could be reversed as the wing having the post/pin.

Idea 3) Again going on the fuselage in half, though would just increase the material where the wings would connect on the inside and attach the wings with screws. Though haven't been able to find any information on strength of my resin to come up with anything more than what I typed here. I don't know if resin has the same problems as filament with screw holes splitting or not.

There are always obstacles with 3d printing and designs, but then there are so many other dilemmas depending on your print medium, printer size, etc. Try and find all the variables that pertain to your problems is another major roadblock. I have learned so much starting this journey, but still always searching for more. Any help or other solutions would be appreciate.

Vehicles are definitely not my strong suit.

Maybe print the fuselage with as much of the wings attached as your printer can handle, giving you more room for a stronger connection with the remainder of the wings?

The long route:

cut the fuselage in 3 sections (nose and the main body along the length if the interior is similar to a commercial plane). Then create your sketch *just* beneath the surface of the either half of the fuselage. You'll end up with 3 parts - 1) the nose , 2) 1/2 the fuselage and a wing and 3) another fuselage half and wing.

This would be a challenge on a small printer with regard to orientation. You'd also cut your center interior in half but that shouldn't be an issue with a commercial plane model.

The short route:

cut the top off of the fuselage for interior access and use the screw method . Alternatively use the dumbbell / pin post method so you can print your wings and body separately. You could also use sandwich tabs for exterior mounting as well. Basically anything to hold the wing in place externally is an option as depending upon the level of detail you want to have externally.

I've been printing vehicles successfully for ...4 months now. No planes but bodies are bodies.
