Ok, I've been drawing a blank and didn't see one on Marauder's site.

What figure came with one of these? I'm wanting one with the long magazine, not the drum. I'm wanting WW2 look, so a BBI or 21st century figure might do it.

What's the difference between a machine gun and a submachine gun?

Submachine gun is more a magazine, clip, or drum fed weapon.

Machine guns are more belt fed, vehicle mounted, turret mounted, or aircraft mounted.

Machine guns fire bigger ammunition, while Submachine guns fire ammo that's more pistol-class in size.

there are lots of shoulder fired machine guns as well. a machine gun is any gun that fires more than one shot with a single trigger pull. it can be a burst of 2 or 3 or full auto. there are light machine guns and heavy machine guns as described above(light is troop carried/fired,heavy is fixed position/mounted) . between light and heavy you have SAW classed weapons (squad automatic)

assault rifle class machine guns fire intermediate cartridges like 5.56x45 or 7.62x39. submachine guns normally fire hand gun rounds but the lines can get blurred with very short barreled rifles that fire intermediate ammo.

More colloquially, a machine gun is any fully-automatic firearm. So in some sense a submachine gun is a machine gun. But if you want to get technical at all, there is a difference as noted above. There are other types as well; an assault rifle fires rifle-calibre rounds and has selective fire capability (ie, it has more than one firing mode, usually full auto and semi-auto).

M1carbine .30carbine assault rifle?submachine gun? in modern verbiage a pistol caliber carbine? the M2 was select fire so full auto back to submachine gun?
M2 browning .50 heavy machine gun
Thompson/colt .45 submachine gun
M3 .45 (grease gun) submachine gun

the biggest advantages to submachineguns is lighter/smaller ammo so you can carry more and high rate of fire with lower recoil so you can shoot it faster and stay on target.

an "assault" rifle was first fielded (though too late) by ww2 germany. it had most of the advantages of a submachine gun but kept a decent sized round to be more effective at ranges further than typical sub-guns could .

that paved the way for the greatest battle implement ever devised ….AK47
