I just saw an ad for "Rit Dye-More" that advertised it would "dye polyester and plastics". Just wondering if anyone has tried this and if it works on figures?

I did...and got pretty good results.
Used the black Dyemore on 3 figures--a blue Beast from the MU line, and 2 white ROC Stormies.
I cleaned them all with Dawn soap and a toothbrush prior, and dyed them per some instructions I found online.
Beast came out excellent. The Stormies still stain my fingers if I handle them a bit. Haven't applied any clear coat over them yet.

Have either of you used PVC cleaner and dye ? I plan on trying it on non PVC plastic (mega construx) in order to see if I can dye without colour leaking following . It works amazingly well on PVC pipe (and I believe abs as well).

I have not. If you do, post back with your results, please.

Nice... I need to track down that thread. If it doesn't bleed as shown on the videos i've seen when applied to PVC pipe i'm going to buy a lot more figures.

I have not tried that PVC cleaner and dye, but I will look around for the thread.

Also, the more I played around with Beast, I did get some light bleeding. Not as bad as Stormie but noticeable.

But my whole intention was to go over him with Krylon Fusion, using the dye to get into those areas where paint would rub.

man, that's hardcore. Chafing I could see, but... wait...

You need to get with Dusty79 and practice reading your words out loud to yourself before publishing them...

You'll put your eye out :shifty: heh heh

The original motivation for trying the PVC (and ABS i believe) dye with PVC Clear Cleaner:
https://makezine.com/projects/make-30/s ... -you-like/

I bought dye from Narad Marketing long ago but any of this specific type of due with PVC cleaner will work. I'll be trying this on the softer Mega Construx plastic .

And perhaps worth looking into ...RiT dye and PVC Cleaner (!)

A long time ago i looked into a type of "acidic paint" designed for automobiles that would more or less melt the top layer of a plastic item allowing the colour to bond at a molecular level i.e. not bleed. Now i know that MEK is what i was looking for all along.
