So I saw this inexpensive airbrush kit at Michaels for $10.

It is from Testors, under the name Air Brainz.

Amazon also has it, along with some vendors on eBay, but for higher price.

For someone that has never actually used an airbrush before, but has seen it used in person, would this kit be a pretty good investment before jumping right in to a higher priced version?

he's not around anymore, but indrox1 was the airbrush dude. I ordered an $80 set from ebay/china on his recommendation. I just couldn't get the hang of it after several attempts. my #1 hang up was cleaning, my #2 was planning. when I paint or draw, carve, etc. I just go with it and follow the direction the piece takes me. if I have to switch tools and paints and clean, dole out every color in advance it just doesn't work for me.

all that being said I asked indrox about the aerosol kits under different name. I believe he said to truly know if it is something for you the $80 kit was bare minimum. it was pump 3 airbrushes cups and everything you need except paint.

For 10 bucks why not try it. If you like it you can upgrade. I got a cheap one that came with a compressor at harbor frieght and the got a nicer iwata at Michaels with a 40% of coupon. I haven't used it much. Like 2DARK2C said you have to clean and take care of it. I liked the smooth finish you can get, and the effects you can make. But I prefer the weathered look and the look of depth from dry brushing and washes over the air brush. If you want the smooth factory look then the airbrush is the way.
