Does it matter that about 1/4 of these, including the currently winning entry, aren't Battle Beasts? I did not enter, I'm just sort of wondering.

You might be right there. The rules say: "The customs can be as true-to-character, or as abstract as possible, as long as they retain some connection to the original character." I couldn't find/recognize some entries either. Let's just see what the poll does in the last couple of hours.

I'm pretty sure almost all of these were done in the spirit of Battle Beasts but not based directly on any specific Battle Beast character. Since only two people entered, Adrien Veidt did all fo them except Pauly which was mine and admittedly I borrowed the idea for it from one of his previously shown customs. I'd say he deserves this win and gets to choose the next topic.

AV did ALL THOSE? Wow. I guess the nearly identical backgrounds should have clued me in, even with such disparate designs. I did think, as an outsider, that since Frog Thor is a known Marvel comics character it didn't make sense to include it (same with Beta Ray Bill who is not only a Marvel character but an alien and not a beast), but yeah, the fact that this is pretty much all his is a heck of an extenuating circumstance. Very impressive.

Thanks everybody. Frankly, I had some BBs back in the day but was entirely unaware that there was any significant canon to them or that any of them had individual names. I pretty much took it as a blanket concept of animal-headed guys that fight.

I tried to submit duos of riders and their vehicles, and I probably shot myself in the foot by insisting that the vehicle were actually individual characters as well and not big accessories to the li'l dudes. Pluv graciously reworked the pics to break them apart, but I do want to show them off as I intended, so here's Cogburn and Bitsy (a pair of lovers):

Oh, and Beta Ray Bill *is* a beast. He was rebuilt from near-scratch from some native Korbinite critter, then highly cyberized. Then he gained the Thor powers on top of all that.

Hah, I'd forgotten that fact about Beta-Ray Bill. I guess that makes him a genetically modified alien cyborg demi-god? I wonder if he has an evil twin who is also a time traveler from another dimension...

And dang, the mount and riders are absolutely fantastic. I'll bet Battle Beasts would still be around if they had your design aesthetic. Or they would at least have gotten a reboot and comic series in 2000!

Although I am creeped out just a tad by the anthropomorphic chicken/giant toad love...

Dammit, now I'm gonna have to pick up a second MU Beta Ray to give him a goatee.
