As most of you know, JC has a traveling convention display that we put out at various conventions (really just JoeCon & AR) -- it consists of a banner, a couple of spice-rack-type shelves, and metric ton of donated customs.
The idea for the table came from us wanting to showcase our hobby, and was met with apprehension and suspicion by con-throwers, who didn't know what to do with us since we were 'display only' and not vendors. The rise and acceptance of Joe DeClassified really helped people understand the 'museum' aspect of what we were trying to do. Most of the customs on display in those early years were donated by beav (who was moving to Scotland and wanted to divest himself of them, yet keep them in the family) and consisted of variations of Shipwreck. Now, 10-ish years after our first convention, we have had additional customs donated to the traveling showcase. Actually, too many donations...
One of the things we like to do when we set up for a show is to leave some open space for JC members attending to put some of their customs on the table, even if only for the duration of the convention -- it gives con-goers, and us, something new to look at and talk about. What we've found over the last year or two is, that to leave space, we've had to leave customs in the box. And the box has a finite amount of room.
We have too many customs.
So, in true JC fashion, we're going to be having a series of polls. We're looking to trim the number of traveling customs, and we want the members of JC to determine which ones best showcase what we do. Not necessarily the 'best' or most 'popular' customs, but a variety of styles, builds, talent levels, fodder, etc., to give the best 'impression' of what JoeCustoms is.
HypnoHustler has graciously offered to photograph every custom in the box and set up a handful of polls on google for us to vote on. We are doing them in batches of 20-something. Our shelves hold 24 customs each without crowding. We will take the top 12 of every batch and keep them in the case (interestingly enough, the figure storage cases also hold 12 figures.) The figures that are not chosen to be included in the traveling display will be offered back to their creators for the cost of shipping, or have the option (default) of being put in the JoeCustoms 'Celebrate The Site' eBay auction next spring, with the proceeds going towards JoeCustoms' Front Page and other future endeavors. That being said, if you find one of your donated customs in the poll, and would like it removed, please just let us know via pm.
