Onyx was brought to The Phoenix Guard from the CIA. While a CIA agent, he idolized Snake Eyes and tried to emulate his training. He hoped to get the call from GI Joe but he was always disappointed. When the Phoenix Guard gave him a position on the team Onyx began dressing like his idol and carrying his sword with him into battle. After not becoming teammates with Snake Eyes he has sworn to replace him and is idolatry has turned to rivalry. Onyx can't wait for the day when the true purpose of The Phoenix Guard is revealed and he can prove to GI Joe and Snake Eyes that he is the better soldier.
