Zartan started out in life as a petty theif in his native Cuba. He eventually worked his way up into local gangs. However back in the 60's , around the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis , Zartan saw how his native land was mistreated by the U.S. (In his eyes anyway).

He developed a deep hatred for the U.S. and all that it stood for. While he watched his lttle brother and sister starve to death because of the embargo , he secretly plotted to leave the island and seek out those whose hatred ran as deep as his.
It didn't take long before he found out about Cobra. He immediatley joined up and served time in the Viper Corps. Zartan even recieved a promotion from Cobra Commander himself. C.C. made Zartan commander of intelligence gathering because of his natural ability to mimic anyone and anything. His ability to camoflauge himself was also a great asset to have in his line of work.

Now Zartan has become alot older and wiser. He now has subbordinates to send on those important missions. However , some missions still require that special touch , which Zartan , himself , is willing to provide.
