Possessing a Ph.D and coming in at the top of his sniper class at West Point, Calvin looked forward to joining the G.I. Joe team. He hoped to show all those who had tortured him in his youth about his occasional clumsiness that he could overcome any obstacle and that he was better than them. But, due to an unfortunate incident with a soda can while the team was considering a codename for him, he was saddled with the codename "Fumbles". This brought back bad memories of his former ridicule during his childhood, he became embarrassed and infuriated. While some of the team tried to apologize and explain that it was simply a joke, he wasn't interested in listening. Fed up and disgusted, he left the them and joined Cobra seeking his revenge and a chance to show the Joe team firsthand just what a skilled sniper he really was...one shot at a time.
