Jason "Blowout" Oswald was something of an underachiever growing up, very smart but not especially interested in school. After graduating from high school, he spent three years working as a bike messenger in Boston. Two hefty medical bills and a few intense, first hand encounters with paramedics prompted him to join the Air Force, intending to become a PJ. He diligently worked his way through the log string of courses required for "Superman School", really applying himself for the first time, and consistently came out on top of all his classes. He served 4 years in the 23rd Special Tactics Squadron before being selected for GI JOE.

As a member of the 'Joe Rescue Team, he is one of the only ones who chooses to carry a weapon. He has a deep, profound respect for Doc and Lifeline's decisions not to do so and despite their philosophical differences, he and Lifeline have a very strong friendship.
