Starting in 1970, ''The Adventures of GI Joe'' became ''The Adventure Team''. For the first time, specific characters were created for GI Joe. The Action Soldier became the Man of Action. Action Soldier, Action Pilot, Action Sailor and Action Marine became the Adventure Team Commander, the Air Adventurer, the Sea Adventurer and the Land Adventurer respectively.

Hasbro added one more character known as the ''black Adventurer''. The basic figure included a with khaki beige shirt and pants, holster and rifle.
