Character/Design:

Side Track was one of Hasbro's lazy, head-to-toe repaints as a new character.

Released in 2000, Ambush was recolored and released as Side Track. Hasbro was even so lazy as to re-use the name (as "Sidetrack" instead of "Side Track") two years later as a different character. Yojoe.com presents them as the same character, but with the different spellings and different files names, I see them as two different characters. Here, I'm giving Side Track a look inspired by the original figure, without looking exactly like Ambush.

Ambush had a rather distinctive look, sporting a haircut and facial hair straight out of the 1880's. The Dr. Mindbender head allows for a thinner mustache, but lacks the sculpted hair and sideburns of Ambush. The Yoda robe mimics the poncho included with Side Track, and also disguises the Cobra Commander torso. The diagonal cord across the chest calls back to the Hasbro Side Track, although here it's meant to look like rope instead of part of a ceremonial uniform.

Colors & Paint:

Loosely based on the original figure.

There was some scuffing left behind when I removed the monocle, so I just painted it as a scar.

The wrap on the rifle is painted to match Side Track's neckerchief and gear.

Sculpting & Modifying:

The monocle was removed from the head. Arm holes were added to the Yoda robe, with some of the edges cut away to streamline it. The rolled up sleeves are sculpted with tape. The beard, neck wrap, and midriff area are sculpted with epoxy. The arm/leg pin holes are also smoothed with epoxy.

I always enjoy correcting the proportions on the NS figures to see what they could have been. The Cobra Commander chest/back was very nicely sculpted by Hasbro, it was just too short. Of course, I'm trying to disguise what it is here, but it's corrected anyway.

Thanks for looking.
