HM "Howling Mad" Murdock
Pilot
The A-Team

Character:

Murdock was the A-Team's pilot. Made of unmatched skills and questionable sanity, "Howling Mad" got the team into or out of trouble as needed.

Design:

The television and film versions of Murdock, played by Dwight Shultz and Sharlo Copley respectively, dressed almost identically. This included a ball cap, a bomber jacket, and khakis. Like my other A-Team figures, this custom isn't intended to represent either actor specifically, although this head leans a bit more towards Sharlo Copley.

Colors & Paint:

Based on both the series and film.

To give the outfit some pep and as a nod to other 80's NBC shows, the figure sports a Knight Rider t-shirt and a Punky Brewster backpack. The tiger image on the back of the jacket, unlike the Punky Brewster and Knight Rider logo, wasn't optional. It's an image of an Adventure People tiger, which had just the right amount of toy-ishness to look right on an action figure. I did omit the lettering above the tiger, as to not time-lock this Murdock to Vietnam. On the tiger image, I also painted over it in spots to minimize the mediocre printing quality. My "decals" are just images printed onto paper, dull sealed on the front and back, then glued in place before getting another crisper clear coat.

Sculpting & Modifying:

The head is a cast by starwarsgeek. The hairline at the widow's peak and the brow were sanded down. The head itself was blended onto the neck, and then the semi-mullet was sculpted on. The fly is sculpted and the knee pins were epoxy smoothed.

The vest is extended on the bottom with a wide rubber band.

Thanks for looking.
