Character:

When the bad reviews of Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins started flowing in, I decided not to give up any more of my time to be disappointed in films that don't respect the source material. I've heard a few reviews that say it's an okay movie, if you're willing to strip away the character names and see it has something that's not GI Joe. That's missing the point of even making a GI Joe movie.

Maybe one day I'll be bored enough to try, but for now I only have a peripheral awareness of some of the new characters. One of them is Akiko, a member of the Arashikage Clan. That's about all I know of the character.

Design:

The Classified figure looks great, though, so I thought I'd re-interpret the character in 1:18 scale, loosely based on the Classified figure and other images I could find of her in the movie.

These mostly Star Wars parts only roughly capture the look of the Classified figure. I'm not married to its design, so making some adaptations to it works for me. The legs are only articulated at the hips. As Akiko is a martial artist, the figure would have been better served by more movement. But the ribbed texture sculpted on the legs is fantastic, and adding knee articulation would have ruined it.

Colors & Paint:

The images I've seen of both the figure and from the film look like the uniform's base color is somewhere between burgundy and cherry black. So, I used that as a starting point, and added the off-white for the shoulders and arms. At this scale, I pushed the off-white darker for less contrast against the uniform.

The Classified Akiko figure came with two fighting sticks/swords (not sure what they're supposed to be) that were silver and black. Here I went with one-tone metallic bronze to contrast against the gloves better.

Sculpting & Modifying:

The bangs are epoxy sculpted, with the loose strands added. The lower part of the Padme hair bun was removed.

The shoulder socket interiors were rebuilt to work with arm posts. The midriff gaps was filled with epoxy, blended to the skirt piece. The chest built up. The wide jacket edges are made from rubber bands glued in place.

Kibble was added to the edges of the Greeda hands and across the back of them to look more like bulky gloves.

The fighting sticks are swizzlesticks wrapped with wire. Special thanks to 2DARK2C for providing the swizzlesticks.

Thanks for looking.
