Clutch is my favorite character, and I wanted to make a custom of him that captured everything I always loved about the guy. I've made a couple of customs of him before, but I was never completely satisfied with them; after making this one, I think I finally got it right.

One of my first priorities for the custom was to give him a working shoulder-holster. I actually made the chest for an earlier Clutch custom: I dremeled out a section of the chest and glued an INTOYZ holster into the hole.

I also wanted this custom to have kneepads: a guy who spends all day crawling around under vehicles would probably need them. So, I sanded the wraps around Budo's knees into two straps, sanded down the fronts of the knees, and then glued on the kneepads from a JvsC Gung-Ho figure. I also sanded off those weird things on the side of Budo's boots.

I had planned on giving him the Uzi, since it was his weapon of choice in the comics, so I decided to give him an ammo pouch for it on the right leg. I didn't want anything on the left leg, though, so I sanded off the strap and glued on a BBI pouch.

Clutch needs a toolbox, so it was easy to decide what the backpack was going to look like. I cut a diagonal notch into the Roadblock backpack to make a seamless connection (the Firefly toolkit is more of a trapezoidal shape), and then glued the Firefly toolbox into place.

And, of course, the most important part of any Clutch custom is the five-o'clock shadow. I made this head for an earlier Clutch custom, too. The stubble was made by dipping a sewing pin into black paint, and then poking tiny holes in the plastic. It took a long time, but I'm happy with it.
