Codename: Hellbore
File Name: Brad "The Brick" Waller
Former Division: SAW-Viper
Hometown: Bennington, Nebraska

History:

Throughout his early life, Brad was a bully. Built like the brick wall he named himself after, he thought nothing of pushing others around for homework or lunch money, and even enjoyed some 'star status' as the high school's top sacker as a linesman in high school.

However, Brad's aggressive style of play made him too dangerous in college: Nebraska dropped him for breaking too many (other players') bones both on and off the field. Already resentful of coaches who were "out to rob him of his big payday," he tried the pro draft, and when no NFL team would touch him, he went to the army.

A fight with his drill sergeant got Brad drummed back out to the street, where he was "lucky not to be court-martialed." With no real job skills and a lot of anger and resentment towards the true powers that be, Brad was ripe for recruitment into Cobra. Cobra's training process lends itself to the bully, and Brad soon completed 'Blueshirt' and 'Viper', to go into the SAW-Viper program.

For the first time, he found himself in a situation where everyone was at least as strong and large as he -- even in college, the Cornhusker linemen held an edge of size over nearly all other teams. Moreover, their job was to bully incoming trainees; Brad made it through the program, but he'd gained an inner voice -- right now no more than a whisper -- asking, "Is that what other people feel when I bully them?"

That question gained an answer in short order. Assigned to a mobile unit in the South American mountains, 'Brick' resumed his methods of pushing around the lesser vipers of his group. After a few months, the rest of the unit had enough. In a firefight with local militia, the unit turned on him, and both sides left the SAW Viper for dead.

But one thing we know: SAW Vipers don't die easily. Still, he might have if a llama herder hadn't passed along the route after both sides had departed. Even this isn't enough; Brad found himself doing something that he never thought he would -- he asked the herder for help. No threats, no bullying. Not that the broken and bloody Viper was in a position to do either.

It was an important step, however, and one that led him to his current place: working with the Argentine government to rout out Cobra and other criminal infestations within the country. It's here that Mercer caught up with Brad, now going by the name of the high-velocity, chain-fed machine-gun he carries.

Personality:

Brad's a man trying to change his ways, but has 20-odd years of past experience and instinct to get past. He still carries a lot of anger, but he sees now that his own actions put him where he is -- not the coach, the drill sergeant, etc. He carries his shattered SAW Viper Helmet as a reminder, a focus to help him come away from the bully he once was, and still has the tendency to lapse into being. Only now, he's more aware of it, and would 'catch' and stop himself.

How he reacts to himself, when he realizes he's pushing someone around, I'm not sure on, and feel free to explore. The only thing I don't see him being is overly apologetic -- certainly not fall over him. An apology would be more of a private, personal thing: eventually, if the Renegades work out, he might go to Nebraska and apologize to the coach, for instance, or someone he'd put in the hospital as a freshman, or (possibly more likely, if the Renegades get military respect) look up that Drill Sergeant.
