Pointblank is my self-custom character, and this is my second version of him (Click here to see the first version). I had been planning on making a second self-custom, and I've always liked the idea of LRRP, so I decided to be an egomaniac and give myself a cool specialty.

This figure was an ordeal to make, so I'll chronicle the process:

I wanted to do a realistic military-style uniform for this figure (I based it on the clothes I wear to go paintballing, on the rare occasion that I actually get a chance to do that). The Footloose chest was a natural choice, except that it's very broad and thick. I'm not quite so bulky, but I love that particular part, so I went after it with some sand-paper and a dremel. I quickly realized that the only thing that makes it so bulky is the waist-line, so I sanded down the front and back of the body near the waist considerably (if you're planning on trying it, be careful: the plastic on the back gets pretty thin after a little sanding). Then, I attacked the web-gear: I hollowed out a space for the flashlight; sanded off the pouch and attached the clip pouches, and sanded down the grenades so they would sit squarely on the chest. I also had to add a strap on the back to replace the one I sanded off.

The legs were kind of tricky, too. I wanted some realistic knee-pads (since LRRP troops spend so much time hiding and waiting), and the Wave 1 Gung-Ho has cool ones. But, I needed some legs with straps where the knee-pads would go. I used Budo's legs, and sanded off all the wrapping around the knee except the very top and very bottom straps. Then, I dremeled off the front of the knee, glued the pads in place, and I had myself a nice, shiny new set of knee-pads. I also sanded off those weird things on the sides of Budo's boots.

Budo's legs don't fit into most Joe waist pieces, so I had to sand down the inside of Stalker 89's waist quite a bit. I also glued on some pouches and a knife and sheath from the BBI SEAL Diver figure (you can't see it in the pics, but it's on the back of the belt).

For the arms, I wanted swivelling wrists, since Joes don't hold sniper rifles very well. I drilled into the Leatherneck arms (between this figure and my new Beachhead custom, I exhausted my supply of Leatherneck arms!), and then slipped some cut-down Intoyz hands into the holes. The Intoyz hands hold the weapons really well, and best of all, they swivel.

I went with a modern military camo pattern for this figure, and while it took forever and a day to paint, I'm happy with the way it turned out.

Now for the accessories: I agonized over what gear to give this guy, which probably explains why he's got so much stuff. I knew he needed a sniper rifle, and I envisioned him (or, rather, me) sitting under a make-shift tent, keeping an eye on enemy troop movements. Those two things made a lot of decisions for me. For the sniper rifle, I wanted a PSG-1, and I'd already used my Blackout rifle to make a custom PSG for my other Pointblank figure. So, I plopped down a cool 97 cents for one of the new Corps! figures, and went to work on his rifle. I cut down the stock, the handle, and the barrel, shortened the sight, and wrapped the gun in some of Ambush's netting. I also cut a small notch in the barrel housing to fit the bipod.

The backpack is really bulky, but I figured that a radio was essential for an LRRP trooper, and I wanted a place to store the PSG-1 when not in use. I suppose I could have just put a strap on it, but I thought that having a place on the backpack to stow it would be even cooler. I cut down a Red Star hand-cannon until all that was left was the base and one of the clips. The rifle fits perfectly into the clip, and it stays in place very well. I gave him some binoculars, as well, mostly to cover that weird thing in the center of Ambush's backpack.

Last but not least, I made some silencers for the two rifles out of some steel tubing.
