Rick Hunter was a young stunt pilot that end up being the hero and lead character of Robotech. He leads a group piloting advanced alien technology that allows the planes they are flying to transform into "battle robots".

As a kid in the 80s all of my favorite franchises mixed with each other. GI Joe was king of that universe. Rick was the ace Pilot of an advanced unit of GI Joe in a future time. He had trained under Ace. It helped that Robotech figures were basically the same size as Joes.
