The Mark

Xamot was born the pampered son of wealthy European Nazi sympathizers. He and his twin brother, Tomax, were raised to respect and embrace the ideals of Nazism. Eventually, both brothers became part of the Nazi Youth movement.

Shortly before puberty, it became clear that Xamot was stricken with Norvturn's Syndrome, a genetic disorder that eventually leaves horrible scars across the patient's entire body. With minimal treatment, Xamot could have possibly endured with only something as simple as a tiny facial scar to mark his bout with the disorder. However, Xamot was betrayed by his brother before treatment could be administered. Acting in the name of Aryan purity, Tomax notified Nazi authorities of Xamot's illness. Xamot was quickly labeled an "undesirable", and was sent to a camp (where he was presumed to have eventually died).

But instead of wasting away and dying, young Xamot thrived within the walls of the camp. He soon gained the trust and respect of those imprisoned alongside him. As he reached maturity, it became clear that Xamot had the potential to become a great leader of men. Shortly before his eighteenth birthday, Xamot escaped from the camp. Instead of fleeing to safety, Xamot remained hidden on the outskirts of the encampment. Unwilling to abandon his fellow prisoners, Xamot spent months setting up an underground escape network for the people still trapped within the camp.

As an adult, Xamot began to hide his horribly-scared face behind a mask and took the name "The Mark". In addition to his disfigured face, the Mark began to conceal his true identity from all who encountered him. As the Mark, he became a rebel freedom fighter and earned a reputation as a curse to the Nazi cause. Either alone or leading a group of like-minded insurgents, the Mark severely hampered numerous Nazi operations.

But eventually, the Mark's luck ran out. During an ill-fated raid on a Nazi supply truck, the Mark was taken captive and placed in a group holding cell to await execution. It was in this cell that the Mark took notice of a fellow prisoner's bold and fearless stand against a Nazi Interrogator. Driven by a respect for this brave man, (who would later be known as Dr. Teeth), the Mark formed a friendship with him. The pair eventually broke free from the Nazi prison and joined the underground "terrorist" organization known as "Cobra".

As part of Cobra, the Mark's natural leadership abilities made him one of the organization's most effective field commanders. The Mark led Cobra agents on numerous raids against the Nazi forces, all of which were successful. He soon worked his way up the Cobra hierarchy to become one of Cobra Commander's most trusted and valuable agents. Cobra intelligence eventually revealed that the Mark's treacherous twin brother, Tomax, had been named one of the chief tacticians in the Nazi army.

Ashamed by his fraternal connection to the Nazi forces, and fueled by a need for revenge, the Mark vowed to devote the rest of his life to destroying Colonel Tomax and putting an end to the Nazis' reign of terror.

From the files of Cobra Commander: "The Mark is a natural leader. But just as his mask hides his face, his personality hides a dark past that he reveals to very few people. Whatever his motives, the Mark is a valuable asset to the Cobra cause."

Of all the customs I've done, this may be my favorite. He was a blast to work on, and I really like the finished product. I used thick, lumpy paint for the facial scars. This gave them a raised, 3-D appearance. I also re-sculpted the hair. I sanded down all of the gold adornments from Cesspool's torso and added the web gear and pouches (the pouches were cut off of a Chap-Mei figure). For the waist, I added holster straps to the side and turned the middle pouch into a belt buckle. The helmet was sanded down to be completely smooth... I wanted to give it sort of a "Man in the Iron Mask" feel.
