Heavy Duty

File Name: Morris, Lamont A.
Primary Specialty: Heavy Ordnance Weapons
Secondary Specialty: Enforcer
Birthplace: Chicago, IL

Heavy Duty might have grown up to be a concert pianist if poverty and the death of his parents when he was twelve hadn't intervened. Slipping through the cracks of an uncaring, abusive foster system soon left him bitter and alone on the streets.

Already big for his age and smart to boot, he was quickly snapped up by the Gods of War street gang to work as a mule. The Gods, unlike other gangs, ran only one commodity: guns. Everything from Saturday Night Specials to anti-tank weapons could be had through them, and they used their firepower to heavily defend their turf. Heavy Duty started out with the gang hauling those weapons and ended his time with them wielding and demonstrating the weapons for prospective buyers. His favorites were anything that could fire a missile: the bigger the bang, the better.

It was through one of these sales that Hawk learned of him; by that time, Heavy Duty had grown heartily sick of gang politics and wanted something bigger. The night he left he personally blew up the gang leader's house with a Dragon missile launcher they'd sold the Joes.

As a member of the Joes Heavy Duty not only handles anti-armor weapons, he is also Hawk's enforcer, using his muscle to bust heads when the troops get out of line, and using his skill with heavy weapons to persuade people to see things the Joe's way: usually by destroying a few things precious to them, such as their homes and businesses. It was on one such mission that Heavy Duty earned the animosity of Ripper, by blowing up his home with Ripper's wife and children inside, an act for which he feels no remorse.

"Might makes right, baby. You got the muscle, you got the firepower, you got the brains, the world is yours. All you gotta do is take it. That's what I do, baby. Right now I might be one dog in the pack, but one day, I'm gonna be top dog, even if I gotta blow the top dog to Hell to get there." -Heavy Duty

I was frankly stumped on where to go with Heavy Duty. Narceron gave me a boost by suggesting I focus on his accessories, which led me to go back to Heavy Duty's original specialty in military ordinance; I added the street gang element later to give him an "edge". Overall the figure has the least amount of painting done to him. I detailed the straps and parts on his legs and chest, added straps for the elbow pads to his arms, and gave him a kind of "war paint" mask to his face to make him more sinister. The rest I dry brushed to give it a dull, battle-worn look. I used a fine brush, metallic silver paint and a lot of patience (and cursing) to get the "Gods of War" stenciled onto his jacket; I'm rather pleased with the results there.
