The inspiration for Grid-Iron came from a picture of General Tommy Franks on the cover of Time magazine. I got to thinking that the Joe team needed an on the spot battlefield commander. Somebody like Flint, but Grid-Iron would worry about every minute detail, and leave the overall planning to Flint.
