I've wanted to do a project like this for a very long time, but when it came time to actually pick a subject matter I was drawing a blank. Then Erik Arana started posting up Action Force comic profiles. Black ink on white paper with a pop (or more) of red, depending on the characters. It looked easy. That was my downfall.

It isn't actually just white. There is a muted pink in there to make the white stand out more. Then the camo and some shade areas aren't just black. They are crossed hatched or fading lines of black. The face not only has shadows but deep furrowed lines. Just some shading, dry brushing, and tight line painting, nothing I haven't done before. It shouldn't have been a problem, but then I sealed it with an ultra matte finish that blurred and cracked the camo splotches. You still get the overall look, but not nearly as crisp as I would have liked.

It is deceptively tough. While being super literal color placement wise, you also have to imagine how those colors move and form over different areas of a 3 dimensional figure with indents and bumps, and yes, articulation points that hinge and swivel.
