Deep in the bowels of Dr. Mindbender's lab his automated BAT Factory (tm) amasses a large army of robotic soldiers loyal to Cobra Commander (tm). BATs don't get tired, need to eat, or come down with life threatening diseases. They just do what they're told.

I've had a Dr. Mindbender playset on my to-do list going on pretty close to a decade now. Part of it was going to include GI Jonny's papercraft BAT Analysis unit. Meanwhile, I've wanted to build a 1/18 scale DUM-E arm from the Iron Man movies since the first movie. So, I decided to use the group project as motivation and combined the two projects to make one small playset. While I really like the analysis unit's original design, I wanted to make it a more comprehensive set piece that I would feel comfortable with picking up at retail. In trying to think of how to make it bigger, while keeping it close to the original concept, the idea of turning it into an assembly line came up. That turned into adding some tech detail and play features. It also helped give me a link to explain why the Iron Man robotic arm would be included, as a foreman. What is weird is the Star Wars Droid Factory was one of my favorite playsets as a kid, but I never realized the obvious inspiration for this project until I was drafting the bio and stylizing it like a package blurb. That is when the playset's name changed to better reflect that inspiration.
