Riptide

File name: Park, Ryan M.
Birthplace: Sarasota, FL
Grade: E-8
Rating: Special Warfare Operator

Ryan Park spent his youth adrift, with no great goals in mind. Extremely intelligent and insightful he excelled in school, often staying late to engage teachers in debate. An avid reader he absorbed books on philosophy, history, politics, and cultures of the world. After Ryan graduated high school, he drifted down to Key West. There, he spent a year working odd jobs and being a "beach bum."

Finally deciding it was time to "grow up," but still not knowing what he wanted to be, Ryan enlisted in the Navy hoping to find direction. What he found, was a home. Just like in high school, Ryan excelled in the Navy, winning top marks in Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) school and the SEAL Qualification Training (SQT) program.

After September 11, he was rotated into Oman for eventual operations in Afghanistan. Riptide was part of special reconnaissance operations conducted in Afghanistan.

On March 20, 2003, he took part in the largest single SEAL operation in history, joining a task force with Polish GROM and British Royal Marines. Their targets were not only the MABOT and KAAOT oil platforms but their respective onshore petroleum pumping locks and the Al Faw port and refinery. Riptide was part of the SEAL force that secured the MOBOT platform which was under the protection of elite Republican Guard troops.

Though somewhat introverted, Riptide has a decisive and tactical mind. His quiet nature hiding a quick wit and sardonic sense of humor.
