Ordinance graduated at the top of his class from the Army's Mechanized Infantry instruction program. He quickly became a highly-decorated tank commander with a reputation for his ability to calculate artillery trajectories on the fly. During a battle with Cobra forces, Ordinance's tank took a direct hit from an armor-piercing shell. Ordinance survived, but was left with severe tinnitis in both ears from the blast. Unable to continue as a tank commander because of his inability to hear over loud noises, Ordinance was forced to seek out alternative forms of artillery. With its whisper-quiet lazer technology, the L.A.W. seemed like a perfect fit.

Hawk: "A lot of the newer guys think Ordinance's name refers to the heavy artillery he's firing, but after hanging around him for a while, they figure out the truth real quick. Ordinance simply won't tolerate any kind of loud noise. He's always the first person to complain if the radio in the motor pool is turned up too loud or if the parties in the lounge get a little too rowdy. I think that's part of the reason he likes being stationed with the L.A.W.: out there in the middle of nowhere, with nobody around to bother him. We just make sure not to put him and Breaker on duty together: Ordinance REALLY hates the sound of popping gum."
