i don't know much about facebook, but hopefully someone can answer that.

the gallery is minus comments so it stays just a true record of customs. all customs need to tie in to gi joe or another joeverse team in some way. most people here have their own "joeverse" so that isn't a big deal.

http://wiki.joecustoms.com/wiki/Custom_ ... Guidelines

i don't think the joecustoms has a like button. there was one here, before my time and i think it hurt feelings or something. FB may have it though.

the awards work pretty smooth. all customs uploaded to the gallery or specially featured (like the snake eyes contest last year) are eligible to be nominated. everyone can nominate anyones custom they want, even self nominate.

http://www.joecustoms.com/features/jcas/jcas.phpthen

the nominated get a vote. then a final ballot vote again.

Thanks for the detailed reply ;) . I would make the main site like Figurerealm, where people can comment about them.

So the awards weren't held this year?

I bring you a few more recent-ish customs ;) .

Here is the Cobra Empress, to be the queen of the new Cobra Empire! I saw the preproduction drawings of Hasbro, for a sort of Cobra Empress that in theory derived into Pythona. I saw them as very cool, and so I tried my luck with a cheap ROC baroness

Here it is Mayday, a comic character that was at the point of being released in GI Joe vs Cobra, but others were chosen instead. At the time I didn't know about the GI Joe extreme character of the same name!

Wolf; the villainous Wolf is the main henchman of Tarantula, a villain that appeared in Stormforce, a UK comic strip created to substitute Action Force when Hasbro bought the rights to it. As such, is very GI Joe-Cobraesque, and makes for wonderful 80s read. Tarantula rose to such popularity that had it's own personal comic strip inside the Battle with Stormforce magazine.

And finally, here is Mato-Grosso, mercenary for hire in Brazil, hired alternatively by Cobra Brazil, Shadowloo not excluding other gangs and freelance works :) . He comes with false plant camouflage, automatic cannon, and dna-altered carnivorous plant he uses as trap. Sculpted within him is sound system on his chest, to confuse enemy with various sounds, and hand flamethrower. Inspired by the early 90s Joe figures that came with all sorts of large accesories, like Incinerator, Firefly, Cobra commander with his plane, etc.

ImageImageImageImage

Alas; I was always fascinated by the comicbook filecards, showing me Joes I never knew nor saw! with time, I went identifying them, but some simply didn't ring any bell nor matched the figures. I realized later, as my comicbooks were in Spanish, that the filecard for "Alas" (wings in spanish) corresponded to Airborne! I could see no similarity between the figure or cartoon with the illustration! it is so bizarre, that when I came over it again, I decided to do a custom of him in it's honour. In my opinion, the old ARAH figure is nice, but doesn't look at all to have red indian descent, hence in my joeverse, that is left out and is given to Alas, a new Joe.

I chose a 25th body, even if I don't usually, as was the only one that could give me the thin and tall look of the illustration.

SOS; this is a custom that started as a simply partswap, and decided to improve it and upgrade it with a repainted Corps head, which are really wonderful, by the way. A member of the British Action Force, specialist in rescuing in adverse conditions.

THANK YOU for posting pictures of the back of your customs. I almost never see that. Its like did you just paint the front of the figure? No? Then show me!

ahem… anyway…

I continue to be i pressed by anyone that can paint ARAH figures so well. You do such a great job of making the colors look crisp and clean. I struggle with ARAH for some reason so I appreciate great work and yours is great.

Many thanks ;) . 2dark2c, god knows, I found it on my daily walkings. I believe some sort of pole was held there, but it collapsed, and now just the hole is left.

Mysterious stranger, thanks ;) . I got used to do it, I've always seen it naturally needed ;) . Nowadays I always take 4 pictures of each custom I do, front, back, and then usually fighting against another figure and a last of a cool dramatic pose. Just very simple customs I reduced them to 3.

For me ARAH is the more natural thing to do :) , although sometimes it needs a special connection with your inner joe :P . I usually struggle with VvV, you need to think in the same vibe. And 25th I find it slightly challenging, to make them look Cobra-Joe enough, and not just Starwarsy.

Rambo, I just remembered, it is from Blitz from Captain savage ;) . 100 % compatible with Gi Joes, same peg, wings come out pressing a button. Very cool. Doesn't suit at all Blitz, that I have the image of him from the movie-episode, so if I had him, it would be a sort of revolutionary that doesn't need a jet backpack.

I've been a while out of touch with the Joeworld, and here I am back :)

This is Downtown, in 25th style. This one was a commission, as usually with one version of a figure I have enough, I don't much for upgradings. I followed a pic of a 25th version there is floating around on the net, sorry I forgot who made it. I used a Duke's head, which I thought at first it wouldn't work, but with some paint I think looked quite good. Then I was going to use the original vintage accesories, but first, they looked a bit puny and undetailed, and secondly I could not find them for the life of me without forking out almost a hundred bucks, or sacrificing the accesories of my beloved vintage figure. So, I thought better to engineer new accesories, more modern, with a heavier mortar and one, heavier projectile.

Here is Overlord, in 25th style. The 25th line stopped short of many figures, and hence customizing kicks in :) . I casted the original parts, of my vintage figure, as they are too complicated and expensive to find nowadays. I made a kitbash of dozens of differents figures, and even then I had to sculpt quite a bit of all the details.

Downtown and Overlord. Two characters I missed by a couple of years a d was never interested in to look at...until now.

These are really right up my aesthetic alley. As 2Dark knows from dilligently commenting in my Retro project thread, spiritually reverent to classic character design customs that take full advantage of modern articulation/accessory engineering make me happy in all the right places.

These are definitely doin' it for me.

Many thanks :) . Personally, I love the original Downtown figure, one of my favourites as a kid. Overlord I have always seen it a bit strange, and I think he benefits very much being in an athletic, 25th body.

Two more!

Hydro Viper; I followed a recipe I saw online for a kind of beastly Hydro Viper. I casted the vintage accesories, and modified them to fit.

Here is Sea Slug, in 25th style. Done last year. I tried to make him in full 25th style, and I made him a removable helmet. I did the logo later, hence missing in some of the pictures :) . I used various 25th parts, cannot remember which, and Duke's head.

Thanks :) . I bring you two more customs, although this time they are MASK, but very compatible with GI Joe in my opinion;

MATT TRAKKER MASK;

For some reason unbeknownst to mere mortals, Hasbro pulled up a strange concoction of a Matt Trakker in their 25th line, in sort of comic style.I hardly know anybody that would prefer that version over the classic cartoon. Hence, I was asked to do a cartoon accurate version, using the Hasbro as base.Basically resculpt armour, add pouch and sculpt the helmet, which took a good amount of time. I then casted it with plastic, so the helmet was easy to take on and off.Hope you like it. Now with the mould, I might make one ARAH version for myself :) .

BRAD TURNER;

Here it is a rather different custom for a change, Brad Turner in GI Joe style! I never had any MASK toy as a kid, never saw any, although I liked very much the cartoon and saw it plenty of times. Only learned much later the existance of the toyline.

In my opinion, it would have been much better in 3.75. I toyed with the idea, and much more after the release of Trakker as 25th figure, such a pity that was unfollowed. I even sold a few MASK figures I had collected, in hope of introducing them as customs in the GI Joe universe.

But alas, I was asked first by a client to make them! this is the second MASK custom I do after Matt Trakker.

Hence, the original idea was to use 25th Buzzer, but it was madness trying to avoid paint rub on an all bright yellow figure. Hence I brainstormed and thought AIM soldier was the right base figure! bad thing, was that the MU is considerably taller, but I realized that was due to a extra long legs, so I cut them and reduced them till making him nicely GI Joe 3.75 compatible.

The most difficult part was making the MASK nicely removable. I was hours sanding the casted plastic helmet (I had to sculpt it first, then mould it) until it was as fine as a feather, yet still solid.

I will probably make a vintage version now that I have the mould for my own collection :) .
